I too like and recommend neutral shoe polish. Works great. For epoxy, I have used a certain JB weld one. It too worked fantastic , but I can't remember which one it was.I use Brownell's Acra Glas gel, plumbers putty, and neutral color shoe polish (has to be neutral color because of chemical makeup) for bedding stocks. The neutral color shoe polish is a great release agent.
Brownell's Acra Glas cleans up using alcohol or water and has an hour working time. I have used it many years in my shop.
For a lasting hold, NEVER use a fast setting epoxy.
