Do you name your rifles?

When I was 17, I purchased my first rifle. It was a Remington 700 BDL that kicked me like a mule. I am now 60 & laugh at myself about it. The gun has been restocked & that fixed the issue. Based on your testimony it sounds like Remington is still using that stock configuration.
 
I don't name all of my guns, BUT... My Kimber Montana in 270 WSM is named "Lil Kim". My 7mm RM Model 70 Winlite answers to "Black", the original color of the stock & Metal. My new 30 Nosler M48 Liberty goes by "Libby". My 4" .500 S&W is "King", as in King of the Kenai. My 4 5/8" RSB in 44 Mag is "Bucky" (shoot some 340 gr LFTs In it and you'll understand the name). My M700 VTR 223 Rem is "Cammy", because of her Camo stock. Of course my 1911 in 45 ACP is named Jeff, in honor of the esteemed Col. Cooper.

That was my practice many moons ago when still married.
I wouldn't give my (now Ex) the combo to either safe just in case (SMART move on my part considering the divorce) but every so often she'd peek in when I'd open the door.
Then, after seeing my, um, "collection" and the safes being more crowded, she'd ask when I got this or that. I'd just reply "They had babies" and let it go at that.
I had an inkling what was coming down the pipe so any new acquisition would be brought in at Oh-Dark-Thirty when all were asleep (one benefit of working a late second shift I suppose).
To this day she STILL hasn't a clue how many guns I (don't) have. Heh, heh, heh.
THAT, my Friend, is the key to a Happy Marriage and, better yet, the key to KEEPING what you bought over the years of marriage.
I don't even feel bad at all. After all, it cost me ENOUGH to get unmarried to her and she emptied my wallet many other ways.
But I got to keep ALL my guns (that later drowned a terrible death in a canoe accident. 200 miles off the coast of Alaska. In a BIG storm where I even lost my GPS. LMAO!!)
 
Yes. My Bennelli Defense Model is Monica (after Monica Bellucci), my Bennelli Field Model is Erica, my M1A is George (after Patton), and my deer rifle is Killer. As in "There he is Killer, let's get him."
 
I have enough firearms (mostly centerfire rifles), that mine are described by:
manufacturer, then model, then caliber, and finally by serial number. I have the digital files and photos on various electronic media, as well as notebooks with all that information, as well as information on the accessories on the rifle including: custom or factory barrel description, length, twist rate and other information, stock mfg., type, material and LOP, scope mfg., model with serial number and description, scope mount information, ring information, trigger information including mfg., model and pull weight, zero distance, load/ammunition information including accuracy and velocity(s) with environmental inputs, and various other information pertinent to the particular firearm.

Each rifle has its own book but, I have a couple of master copies with all the firearms included. One master copy is keep in my safe deposit box, the other in my primary gun safe. My will also includes this information but, is only updated annually. I also included in the master copies and my will, who each firearm is to be left to, in the event of my demise.

What an awesome question!

Yes, yes, yes! I have given all my own rifles nicknames. And a few of the guns I have worked on too! This practice goes WAY back to my early years of rifle and shotgun ownership.

My very first shotgun was a cooey single shot 16g. It got called Jail Bait. I don't Remember exactly why but obviously something to do with 16 and maybe some other illegal activity I undertook at the time. I was a teenager then and well over 70 now.

Next was a 12G 3" Magnum single shot cooey that got called Mule. Cuz it kicked like one.

A few other noteables are:

Thor - my muzzle loader - The God of Thunder

Beast - a very HEAVY Varmint rifle

Gina - my first hand carved stick on a 222 smithed by Ed Shilen himself - The sexiest looking rifle you ever laid your hands on - named after Gina Lollabridgida (the sexiest woman I NEVER laid hands on.....)

Fatso - My first Benchrest Rifle

Remi - My first Rem 700 - later fully customized but still good old Remi.

Trashy - a drop dead gorgeous Browning X-Bolt White Gold with a Grade XXXXXXXXXX Stock right out of the box. No idea how it ever left the factory that way. The white gold is a beautiful rifle, but that dress she wears looks WAY out of place. The dress is sooooooo sexy, it looks sinful.

Weird? Actually, not naming them is what's weird. Almost everyone I know names at least their Deer Rifle. Most notable hunters in history have named their Guns. Either that, or I hang out with a bunch of weirdos!
 
No, I don't.

If I named them, I might start talking to them. That's just strange behavior. And nowadays who needs to give the busybodies any excuse to grab your guns ?!
 
I don't name most of my firearms but some just get names through use or someone else I do name every car I own though and people who don't name their cars are weird.
  • "Calvin": A custom Ruger 10/22 and my nephew said it just felt like a Calvin
  • "Blackjack": An AR15 in 300 Blackout on a Sharps Bro "The Jack" receiver
  • "The Javelin": A Rem 700 in 280A.I. with a 1:8 twist. Had a buddy once state the 168gr. Barnes I load it with are "as long as spears".
  • "Little Bastard" A Smith & Wesson J-Frame ultralite (model 340) in 357mag. It weighs 12oz. unloaded, the rest is pretty self explanatory
