Hmm yep I think I would if I needed to, but would have to be within 200 yards to be a humane kill imho. For elk I use my 6.5 Creedmoor with 156 Grain EOL Elite Hunter ammo typically, but since the thread was "all around" gun I def put my 18" carbon fiber Grendel at the top of the list. I use it more than any other gun, for everything from coyote hunting to hog hunting to whitetail hunting, which is my big 3 I do the most often.

Lots of good suggestions, but stick with a .284 bullet so 7 mag, 280 ai, 28 nosler, 7 saum. All four are hammers and can be tuned fairly easily.

With what your qualifications are, I would go with 6.5 PRC. Very accurate with factory ammo, short action, light recoil. Adequate for elk & perfect for long range deer or antelope. If it were primarily for elk I would go with 300 WSM to stay with a short action. Yes, I prefer the short action magnums If I have to walk much.

30.06. Killed more deer with that gun than any other rifle I own. Easy to load for also just for fun.

270 win. Will handle everything from prairie dogs to bull moose. Easy to load and very forgiving. Components readily available? Well that pretty much eliminates every caliber. No matter what manufacturers you go with it will always feed nicely. I have shot bull elk with this cartridge out to 600 and one shot one kill.

It's all personal preference, I'm sure we're going to see a lot of votes for a man bun special to a 338 of some sort. Pick what you feel is right and go with it.
Shot placement and practice will never be substituted for a specific caliber.

7 mag . I've taken coyote's to moose with it . Shot placement and bullet design is the key .
