Custom rifle cost going to the moon , when does it end ?

I personally probably wouldn't buy a turn key Gunwerks rifle just because I can build or have built something very similar for a lot less.

But, one thing everyone needs to realize is Gunwerks and BOTW have done more for the advancement of long range hunting than EVERY other company COMBINED, hands down!! The research and development that they have done that nobody even knows about costs money, their many employees cost money, their equipment costs money etc etc etc...

Aaron still needs to lose the creeper stash, but other than that they are actually a good bunch of guys.

Agreed, both about the stash and both companies being partially/largely responsible for the boom in our sport, both technologically and with recruiting interest.

I just saw a new release of a highbred big game rifle from probably THE big boys in the industry . The cost including a 2500.00$ optic is 12500.00$ . I have done my fair share of buying things that I knew were a bit out of the ( practical or common sense range ) because I just wanted it but not to the tune of 12500.00 lol !! To be clear I'm sure it comes with 100 rounds of custom ( tuned ) Ammo for it and we all know the work that goes into that although the load development is the steepest on the first ( set up ) then after that it's probably a little more cookie cutter . I'll be the first to admit these are some of the baddest rifles to ever hit the planet and the detail and designs are AMAZING for sure! I feel a custom build with a premium barrel , stock , trigger , action and optic around 5-6 k is ( fair ) but I also have some factory rifles with a proper tuned load that shot at .250 or better . One in particular I have is a .093 5 shot group at 100 yard and it holds that moa pretty close to 800 so far , I knew they shot well but I'm still on cloud 9 with that one and I promise, that's not the norm for me on factory guns !!
I know these factory rifles most likely will walk significantly more threw a 20 shot string then these premium guns will of course but for most hunting rifles that's not necessarily going to be needed . I have set up several rifles for friends that just want a hunting gun with factory Ammo . I set one rem 700 up with a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14 and found THE factory Ammo that it liked ! On most of these projects I'm able to find Ammo that will shoot .500 or better all for 1800.00$ and it just about holds that all the way to 800. I'm not poking at custom builders ,it is a true art , I'm just asking what your feelings are towards these 10-12000.00$ guns and where the future is headed ( and I'm not talking about 50 bmg or 375 cheytac type guns) With all the modern machining practices, factory rifles have came a long way for sure ! I think we are going to see a swing in the market for gun builders to produce a gun that is a (budget) version . I think these are selling now because of the craze we are in now kinda like in 2008 when desil pickups were grocery getters during that craze that blew up , then desil hit 5.00$ gallon in Comifornia and they were dumped quick ! Is it just me or are these prices crazy ..... but soooo bad a** of a rifle !!
It's just you! Lol....prices are whatever the market will bare! If I had the money I wouldn't spend 1,000,000.00 on a car! I would spend 20,000.00 on a gun though. Or maybe $29,552.80. Whatever tickles YOUR FANCY!

Gunsmithing is an odd biz. Not many guys retire and fix cars, dig basements, or wire houses for fun. But a lot of guys retire and gunsmith for fun. Its really not reasonable to compare a full time, IRS paying, insured, proven, and experienced smith to a guy thats doing it for a hobby and doesnt need the money. But that is what happens. And thats not a dig at the hobby guys, some do excellent work. Some one said it very well, gunsmithing is just a job you own. Its not like other businesses that you grow and hire guys to do the work. Its a wage earning job that requires a large investment in overhead. It is a labor of love. I think Gunwerks is how gunsmithing/rifle building looks when normal business practices are applied to gunsmithing. We just are not used to it yet.

I always find that old saw funny. "more money than sense" All the customers that I know are really successful and intelligent people. I've learned a lot from the association. I aspire to their levels of intelligence and success. The hard working self made successful person that buys a Gunwerks rifle, whether he's a landscaper or a land developer isn't a stupid person. I don't mind when people beat up our brand, because I understand it mostly comes from a lack of visibility or complete knowledge. But I will stick up for our customers. They are smart cats! They are successful for a reason.
My 'best' clients are small business owners or they work in upper management. They didn't get to where they're are at not having 'sense'. Those who work for a wage rarely understand business costs and requirements. For many, in their eyes anyone with a lathe or a barrel nut wrench is a "gunsmith".....

It's not a new story. A Ford or Chevy will get you there as well as a Roll Royce or Bentley. It' all about "look at ME" if you can tote the note, go for it. But remember, my bullet is going to get there as fast or maybe faster than yours. At the target nobody sees the rifle, only the results! Keep shootin.
Agreed! I have owned about every brand of rifle
(Winchester, Remington, Inter-Arms, Sako, Browning, Thompson Center, Savage, countless Rugers) I have a safe full of Savage Rifles. I have never had a Savage that I could not get to shoot, if it did not shoot out of the box. My current project is a $219.00 Savage 112 FV purchased on sale at Cabelas a couple years back in 6.5 Creedmor. Yep, I jumped on the Creed bandwagon! Shot ok out the box sub MOA rifle. I have put some time and money into this rifle and it will print .25 MOA if I do my job behind it. Recently I was at the range starting to set up to shoot and in rolls Mr Megabucks with his $10k custom rifle bragging about his purchase to others and how great this rifle shoots! Unlucky for him he parks on the next bench to me. I could not help myself and was watching his target as he shot. Now the rifle may have been capable, but he didn't have the ability? Of course I did my job perfectly behind my Savage Turd and was shooting nice little bughole groups. The guy finally asked me what I was shooting and I told a $219.00 Savage. He packed up his SUV and I've never seen him again. I didn't tell him what I had in it but the most expensive piece is the Sightron Scope $1k! I would have like to have shot that rifle to see if it would shoot.
Same as Golf, You Can't "BUY A GAME"

Dude, our TV program has always paid for it's costs through other sponsors. The difference is we develop new stuff. I've seen these posts a hundred times. We're not the most expensive, we just offer an inclusive price that shocks the hell out of people!

This is not an endorsement , nor a criticism of Gunwerks , only my opinion of one time meeting Aaron and Mike Davidson .

In the summer of 2009 , I was in Cody , Wyoming , and at that time , I think that the Davidsons were still associated with Best Of The West . Their office was in downtown Cody , and I stopped in at Best Of The West to hopefully look at one of their Huskemaw 5 x 20 scopes . When I entered , I was met by Jeremy Winters , who invited me to step into the adjoining room while he went to get a scope for me to look at . In that room , Aaron Davidson was conducting a classroom lecture on the physics and mathematics of long-range shooting . I stood there quietly , not wanting to interrupt Aaron and his students for about 1 minute as he asked the students in his long-range shooting class to calculate how many RPM a bullet would be spinning if shot out of a rifle at 3000 FPS with a 9" twist barrel , and he would return in a couple of minutes for their answers .
He walked to me and introduced himself to me , and stated that these people were taking his long-range shooting school , and asked my name . I introduced myself and said 240,000 RPM is the answer to your question . He laughed , asked if I would like to drive out to their shooting range the next day and watch the shooting on their range day . He gave directions to Burlington , Wyoming , and said to meet them at 8:00 AM .
I met Aaron and his shooters that next morning , and followed them to the range . Aaron invited me to shoot one of his rifles along with the class , I thanked him for the invitation but I declined doing so , because I explained that his students had paid for this training , and I would not intrude upon their training , I asked if it would be okay to sit back 50 yards behind the group to watch . He said that would be no problem . As i sat there as the shooters began preparing their equipment , Mike Davidson walked over , introduced himself , and also invited me to join with the shooting . Again I declined , explaining to Mike why I would not shoot with them , even though I really wanted to , and thanked him for the invite . I watched for over an hour as his shooters rang the steel , until they stopped to go out and re-hang the plate at 900 yards , where a shot had broken the right side chain that held the plate level . Then I left .

I just want to say that they were both friendly and gracious , and made me feel like we were old friends . Jeremy Winters was also very friendly .

From my meeting , I think that they are fine people , and I presume that they build fine shooting rifles .

One is engraving and the other is the natural fiber/carbon fiber composite stock layup.

So I have to ask, do you plan on offering just the stock for sale in the future? Not sure if anyone else makes anything similar but I am definitely intrigued.

I remember over 10 years ago a buddy of mine bought a "turn key" Robar in .300 win mag. Ammo, nightforce, pelican case...it was $9,800...I have no idea what they cost these days.
