Custom Rifle Builder Question

Ok so let's throw price out the window for starters if you could only have One and only One custom rifle builder to build you a custom hunting rifle who would it be ?

Thanks,
Danny

Long time no post, sorry guys. I will say that this is a subjective question that really got me thinking, enough so that I logged on from the Email blast and am posting on a thread after a 5ish year hiatus.

Every person has their idea of perfection and standards of accuracy for the caliber and cartridge of their choosing. The design, features and necessary optic requirements will send you to a specific genre of rifles or builders. For instance, the F-Class rifle I had built took nearly 2 years to build back in the early 2000's due to bottlenecked supply chains for coveted military contract barrels and my maker was the most sought after at the time. You can't rush perfection when you want specific parts. Same goes for cottage makers, and if they are that good and have great attention to detail and fitment, the time line will go out the window.

I'm currently waiting on a rifle that I put a deposit on in January. I don't care about the time line, and when I needed a barrel to extend the life of my current rifle, I called them and explained the situation, they immediately sent me a prefit barrel that was 1 hole accurate half way through break in. We all know that most long range calibers are going to be hard on barrels. Having a smith that can get you what you need to make your rifle operable and back to just as accurate as when they shipped it to you is just about impossible to find. Well, I found it. Not only is this smith a stickler for detail, he is also at the leading edge of the industry, designing bullets and testing new technology all year long. His extensive training as an aeronautical engineer has been put to good use in the industry and at his formerly home based gunsmithing enterprise. It's hard to question his results. I'm part of a private group that he is a part of and have long utilized his brain power to help me make decisions in my shooting, but have recently started using his company for my rifles. Others in the group have used his rifles and barrels for exacting precision and wildcat goodness. But there's really no need for me to tell you the tale, when there is enough press out there to support my claims.

My Patriot Valley Arms Hancock Rifle should be shipping in the next few weeks. If it's half as good as the 6mm Creedmoor barrel he cut and sent to me within a couple days of my request, I'll be putting the Obermeyer barreled Saltzman custom rifle out to pasture.

I have no doubt in Josh's products or commitment to the sport. As long as I can keep affording the flatline bullets he designed, I'll be in great shape!

Hope this helps

Any recommendations in the South East/ Deep South?

Like a couple of other posters, there is one that I won't be spending more money with: this one in Middle Georgia.

I would have Robert Waggoner at Alamo Precision Rifles in Hurst build it. He has built me 11 rifles that I not only shoot with in competitions PRS, NALRSA and ELR along with my student guns for my Long Range classes. The latest a .375CT that I shoot out to 3500 yds. I have yet to have a stick shoot over .250 MOA and several doing that at 500 yds with me behind the gun. The craftsmanship is superb. To MudRunner2005 just to let you know Chase Curtis does not build guns he just sells his actions he also has several of his guns built for him by Robert at Alamo also! You can't go wrong with Alamo Precision!

I like this question... Kind of like going to an AA meeting... Hi my names sbruni and I'm a custom riflaholic. I have (or in a couple cases have had):
5 - Jarret's
5 - Bansner's
2 - Mcwhorters
1.5 - Gunwerks (one on order)
1 - Brown Precision
3 - Tumbleweed Customs (Mark Pharr)
1 - Mcmillan

For a classic or light weight hunting rifle with great balance and the best fit and finish out there Mark Bansner is my go to guy.

Jarret makes awesome barrels and a fine rifle but is a bit limited on experience and twist rates if you want to shoot heavy for caliber bullets... started building laser beam, beanfield guns before rangefinders were a dime a dozen and tend to continue with that theme.

Mcwhorter does make a pretty fine product as well. have been pretty impressed with their finishes the past couple of years.

Mark Pharr is that extremely talented local guy that no one knows exists and you hope it stays that way... so don't tell anyone... he's been a smith and a shooter for ever and knows how to build accurate rifles. In his spare time he shoots for the Lapua team and is one of the best silhouette shooters on the continent... Hard to hate a guy who can ping steel with annoying regularity off hand at 600-700 yards.

Gunwerks is pretty much TBD for me but I'm excited about their new stock geometry and the thought that went into it. The 7LRM I have was a custom they built years ago on a 700 action. shoots great with my handloads but not too exciting with their stock ammo.

Not sure McMillan or Brown precision really exist any more
7LRM just a fantastic round. Gunwerks built mine off of parts I sent. Saved a ton and it shoots well out to 1500 yards. Unfortunately they don't do that anymore it's there parts or nothing.

Travis at R-BROS. He built a 300 win mag Long Range Hunter for me that shoots like a laser. 1/4 MOA off the bench at 200 yards and I've shot several 1/2 MOA goups at 1000 with it out in the field.
