the only true local smith that i know builds rifles around the house is hit or miss. he will build one rifle that is just awesome and shoots lights out. the next one he builds wont keep a 3 inch group at 50 yards. thats why i would rather spend the money and have someone who is known to build good guns do it

I am fortunate that I have at least 6 reputable gunsmith within an hour's drive, one of which is 2 miles from my house and Kirby Allen is ~half an hour away.

There are a few reputable gunsmiths (crrent and previous site sponsors) here and you might want to contact them and work with them closely to figure out what is best for your budget and intended purpose.
