Custom .22-250?

I did a 220 Swift AI many moons ago, would do so again in a nanno...the reason to AI isn't speed it's to remove trimming. In the Swifts case it negated trimming and all the brass flow to the neck.

So heck yeah it's worth it!

I love the .22-250 cartridge. The SAMMI spec is lame compared to modern standards and projectiles though. So…contemplating a .22-250 custom with a 6" or 7" twist barrel. Now we're talking old cartridge with some legs.

Before you start throwing 22 CM or others at me because this or that…I have lots of .22-250 brass laying around…like a lot. I also have a metric crap ton of 77 grn SMKs laying around.

What action size would be adequate? Should I throat the barrel for the specific bullet I will be using?

Intended purpose: Coyote gun. That's it….just a yote gun. I'd run it suppressed. Long barrel ok…even with a suppressor.

How would you build this rifle?

Personally I'd go with a Falkor action, Lilja 8-10 twist barrel at 22" mount a diamond trigger tech and lay it all in an AG composites stock! 22-250's still rock even with the 22 creed it's just essentially a 22-250 ai. I've got them all!

Had the 22 Creedmoor AI done years ago. I called it the .224 Bleedmore. I see recently a few on YouTube have copied it. Whidden did my dies.

Boy oh boy, you guys and your hi-bred cartridges. That ain't me, but I did have Rem 700 action sent to Shilen Rifles to get it rebarreled from .243 AI to .22-250 Rem with an Alternut bull barrel. for a grand total of about $675.00 in June of 2022.
The folks there were a joy to deal with at that time.
The action already had a Jewel trigger so that was good.
I guess I'm not understanding the desire to go to .22-250 AI for just a 150 fps increase in velocity.
OK, no trimming the cases, but I set up one of my case trimmers for each cartridge I reload.
Yes, I suppose that longer and heavier, more efficient bullets for greater distance is driving this also.
The .22-250 Rem is such a flat shooter that in my world, lower Michigan, I won't need any better cartridge.

The AI case is kinda like a big block engine. Not everyone has one but deep down inside we all want one!

Well, after reading all the posts here…if I were to get a custom twist barrel, why not get the AI upgrade at the same time. I can use the same brass…so….

Ok, one more... Here's what PO Ackley had to say on the subject of "killing power" and .22 calibers... not everything, but... you can pick up Manual #1 and see page 83 and more. I don't have a dog in the fight I have my own thoughts on the subject and it could go either way depending on circumstances at the time and of course the game.

I know for a fact the a 80.5gr Berger full bore bullet. Launched from a 22 Creedmoor improved @ 3400 fps will flat crush a mule deer and turn both lungs to soup at just shy of 300 yards. Bang! Flop!

I bet a 88gr Hornady ELD-M would wreck one just the same.
