CURTIS ACTION- Updated with Pictures

That looks pretty cool - amazing what can be done!

I wonder if it would be a pain to keep all those grooves clean though? (just my laziness showing through there...)

I'm not a fan of the original shroud or the fluted one. I'm in the camp of shaping it like the Wby or perhaps shape it more like the 700. I don't care for the look of the straight flutes on the bolt body, more a fan of spiral flutes. I LOVE the integral rail and recoil lug. Ought to be one stiff action! I know you are going for a somewhat proprietary look but I think the action will stand on its own merits without lots of cosmetic bells and whistles.

Having said that, perhaps you could offer the different bolt shrouds, spiral fluting on the bolt body and different moa choices on the scope rail as options (preferrably at low or no cost).

For all you guys that had some heartburn over the preliminary design of the shroud...

I pulled our programs and started playing with some designs... Its certainly not completed but gives you some idea of another route...

how does this strike your taste buds...

THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.... it lacks detail!!!

I like the angular better if the choice is just between the two. Have never personally been a fan of flutes in general. I personally feel simple and less busy is always superior (neverminding that it would likely be easier to clean that way as well). I also agree with sambo on the spiral flutes on the bolt being more aesthetically pleasing to the eye (at least mine). Seems like they would be hard or more expensive to make that way however. I do kind of wonder how angled cuts would look against the angular back on the original pics though I'd imagine it'd share the same potential issues with the spiral flutes.

Nice looking action guys! I like it all except the straight fluted bolt body......The down side to the straights is they ratchet on the rounds in the mag box! the shallow narrow straights don't do it as bad but the wider deeper ones do pretty bad.. Throw a slow or fast spiral at em and its smooth as glass. Plus they look awesome! Keep the fluted shroud its off the wall and way different and I like that! Just my 2cents. Other wise very nice looking action, and Im glad some one else is trying to make an aftermarket three lug :) Will I be able to run big lapua sized cases at an COAL of 3.900" repeater?????

Re: Curtis action

Joel,

What is the ejection angle like on these? Hopefully as horizontal as possible so as to clear a windage turret on a low mounted scope…

You will be able to run a coal of 4.0" in the Lapua action with out proprietary bottom metal and mag.

We positioned the extractor and the plunger in the proper position in order to have a flat ejection, which will eliminate any contact with the windage turrets...

Very nice indeed. Be nice to see finished product. Do you have plans in the future to start building full rifles or just concentrating on actions only? Again very nice.

Thanks Curtis for the reply. With these actions and some of Joel's work he does on wood stocks would be nothing shirt of stunning IMO. Good luck gentlemen can't wait to see how this comes together.
