CURTIS ACTION- Updated with Pictures

I love the short throw feature.

Any chance that the rear of the bolt could be smooth rather than 6 sided?
You have a lot of angles going on there between the flats on the sides of the action, the pointed flutes in the bolt and the hard 6 sides of the rear of the bolt. It just looks a bit disharmonious to me.

Otherwise possibly have the number of flutes line up with the number of sides of the rear? I'm guessing you have 7 flutes but 6 sides, if that makes sense.

Thanks guys, love the dialogue...
I understand what you are describing about the shroud..
The flats on the side of the action will be a bit more pronounced on the productions pieces. We have changed a few areas on the shroud in order to "clean it up a bit and make it look like it belongs... We actually gave it a bit more taper from front to rear, and broke some of the hard edges.. The rear of the shroud will be engraved with the business logo..
The bolt handle will be smooth and will end even with the bottom of the shroud on the left side of the bolt.

The beauty of making every piece of this action in house is that we can design and make it the way we like it, and not be governed by having to use what is being made by someone else...
The downside is that it takes time..and lots of it.., oh and did I mention money...LOL

When I see a shroud like that I think of how smooth the shroud looks for a Weatherby Mark V (shocker, I know). See in the photo below how the action seems to flow right into the shroud as if they were formed from one piece.
What I see there looks like angles for the sake of angles, i.e. "because we can". I hope that makes sense without sounding bad.

With a short throw this could give one of the benefits of a Mark V action but also be able to fit in one of the many Remington-shaped stocks. That would be nice.

I'm assuming this is a push feed. Is there a possibility that a CRF with M70 or SAKO style ejector could be produced in the future?

Also, can a 3 position safety be installed?

Unfortunately, we don't have any future plans to manufacture a CRF style action. We looked at the Sako extractor, and although it could have been used in our application, we decided that the M16 extractor was a better choice.

Unless we decide to make the 3 position safety, the ones offered will not work. At this point, we have our hands full with actions and bottom metal, so it may be quite a while before we address the 3 position safety.

I agree with the cosmetic perception here. I like all things smooth, no sharp angles back where my thumb might be.

I meant the the SAKO (or M70) style ejector which would be part of the CRF action.

The M16 style extractor is a good choice for this action IMO.

Thanks

Re: Curtis action

Love the look of it so far. Was about to have a custom built with the 3 lug as I prefer them to the two but will hold off for now as I'm not in a hurry and see how it plays out but may have to change my original plan in favor of this one.. Am fine with the angular design but do understand why some would like more rounded lines.

For all you guys that had some heartburn over the preliminary design of the shroud...

I pulled our programs and started playing with some designs... Its certainly not completed but gives you some idea of another route...

how does this strike your taste buds...

THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.... it lacks detail!!!
