Couple new wildcats...

I think the expensive WBY brass is offset by having to buy custom dies, custom reamer, and fireforming for these new wildcats. But having your own design is cool though.

No fireforming or custom dies are needed. And the reamer is the same price as any other reamer for the most part :Dgun)

What dies do you use? And you have to fireform unless you have factory brass made for it:Dgun)

Jerry, no custom dies are needed. Read the full post please.
This is an easy and cheaper option to get a high performance flat shooting rifle.
This Diablo line of cartridges will be half the cost of a wby or any of the new magnums with more or equal performance

If you don't need custom dies, what dies do you use?

. a bigger line going on the 338 Norma. gun)

I say forget all the belted case wildcats and move into the future, you don't see anybody buying the Atari game machines, everybody wants the new X-Box or Play Station...... personally I'd like to see all the manufacturers discontinue production and phase out the entire belted mag line, ALL of them, for good......... and concentrate on production on the better modern designs and move on to new innovations,

the 338 Norma Mag as a parent case is where you will find your performance in any bullet diameter, too much case capacity for the skinnier bullets ? shorten the cases a bit ....... I've got numerous wildcats in various case lengths from WSSM, 308 WIN, WSM and full length in 264 thru .510 bullet diameters, I can tell you straight up that performance is gained by the wider cases over the skinny stuff, no matter how long you make the case the wider shorter one with less case capacity will outperform it every time ....... once we all move from the old, ancient outdated designs and STOP buying them, the manufacturers will respond buy ceasing production of non saleable items and adjust to produce the better designed cases that sell ......

sometimes we are victims of our own making, clinging to something that should have been discarded long ago.........

We have a line coming out on the 338 Norma case as well. They are still in the testing stages. I will have a full report on the 270 cal version in the next week or so.

The 300 win mag has been around for ages and will be around for plenty more. It's not going anywhere. So why not use it to its full potential?

Also a lot of people don't want to fork out the cash to have a speciality wildcat that you have to have a bigger action, custom dies, and expensive brass. But then again some people do. I'm am trying to build a cartridge that can keep up with the more powerful rounds and do so in a practical and justifiable way.

One thing I love about America are all the choices we can still make. I say go for it.

I too am working on a belted classic as a parent case.

Good luck on your endeavor(s).

So for the 277 caliber there are the approximate Water Capacities, to overflow:

270 WIN 67.0
270-284 WIN 71.0
270 AI 72.5 (?)
270 Gibbs 74.4
270 Ackley Magnum 74.0 (Shortened 7mm Mag)]
270 Sherman 76.5
270 WSM 79.5
270 WBY 82.0
270 Diablo 91.5
270-300 WIN MAG 92.0
270-300 WBY 96.0
27 Nosler 102.1
270-7 RUM 112.0 (?)

Most of these are from QL, some are from other sites, please correct me where I am wrong ...

I like the idea of the long neck, may help with throat erosion ...

Is this a full case to the top of the neck? Or the neck/shoulder junction?
A full case to the top was 94 grs
Thanks for the good info

"Maximum Case Capacity, overflow" as stated in QL.

QL lists the 300Win Mag as 91.99 grains H2O, you may have brass that is thinner or something to reach 94 grains ...

A 300Win Mag case necked down to .277 would hold less water in the neck, so theoretically it would be <91.99 grains H2O...
