Comparing the Berger 210 VLD to the 215 Hybrid

Almost a year since this thread was last commented on but I'll add mine. Got this bull at 1176 yards using the 215 hybrid. 300 WSM 2817 FPS muzzle velocity. Bull was quartering away so put the bullet behind the ribs. Bullet went length wise through him under the spine cutting a trough across the top of one lung then came up through a rib and lodged in the front of a back strap. Bull ran 50 yards and piled up. At this range and impact velocity the tip of the bullet was gone and the remainder was not mushroomed. Either need to keep the range a bit closer or go to a bigger case… but it did kill quickly. Awesome! Congrats on a mighty fine harvest. It is good to know its real-world effectiveness in games, especially on elk. I am pushing the 215 out of my .300 WSM at 2850 FPS. I have shot targets to 966Y but under 600Y on games. Thanks for sharing.

I'm in the process of building a .300 Norma Improved to shoot the Berger 245 grain EOL for hunting this canyon.

I considered a 338 lapua for several years. I'll have to try the BD2 as well. That may be a better bullet in the 300 WSM than the 215 Bergers. I couldn't find on their website the recommended impact velocitys. Seems I read somewhere 1300 minimum. Do you know?

After some more research and conversation I want to try the 195 grain Badlands BD2 in my 300 WSM. It looks like with their relatively high BC and 2950 FPS I should have sufficient speed and energy for good performance out to 1200 yards. The 215's out of the 300 Norma Improved at 3200 look good out to 1200 as well. I'll have a 30" barrel on the Norma so may well see better than 3200.

Any Berger bullet going 3200 fps is going to grenade if shot close. Personally if a bullet gets to 3100, I drop down to heavier bullet. 300 nmi shoots way better with 230's.

I plan to shoot 245 EOL's out of the Norma, if I can find some. I do have 1K 215's if not. Shots will be in the 800-1200 yard range across a canyon I hunt.

I'll trade ya 1k 230 OTM for your 215's if you need 230's.
I'm hoping the 245 grain Bergers will become available before to long for the Norma. Testing a few other bullets in the 300 WSM and if I don't find something I like better I'll keep the 215's for that. I'm getting just under half moa at 1320 yards with rl26 currently.
