Classified courtesies

I apologize to anyone that I have ever upset on this forum. I do not post in the thread anything about PM sent or I'll take it. Simply because so many are saying that opens the door to scammers. I'm not trying to be inconsiderate or disrespectful in any way. Most of the people on here have been great every once in a while I'll PM someone and they never respond, not sure why but life is too short to worry about it. So I deal with the ones that are willing and move on if they ignore me. One question I would like to ask the community. If a reasonably new member has something for sale and you are interested. Would it be wrong to ask them to ship and then send them the funds? I've never done this but have passed on items because of the scams that seem to crop up every little bit. Have a great day everyone.

You can't please everyone and it never hurts to ask and try to work things out If you feel comfortable then go for it. If not run away fast. Even a video phone call with item in hand can help..

What about the people who send you a message and say they're interested and then they do not message you back? I've had that happen more than a few times. How long do you wait to move on? I've had guys say "I'll take it" then ask me for the payment information, only to not get back to me on it. Again how long do you wait to move on?

How do you handle offers and counteroffers? How long do you wait to hear back from someone on those? There's as much ethics involved in being the purchaser as there is in being the seller. Both sides of buying and selling stuff on here need to do a better job in my opinion…and it sucks because it only takes a few to ruin it for the masses.

Why? How is that courtesy?
It's a courtesy to you… the potential buyer.

Don't take this the wrong way, but have you been reading what's been going on, in various forums, when you post, "I'll take it", or "PM sent"?…

You post an "I'll take it", in someone's For Sale thread…

And a scammer immediately sends your their PP/Venmo/Zelle info, for payment.

You send the money to the scammer…and your money is gone.

I spent the majority of 25 years doing sourcing (fancy name for procurement/purchasing) there are so many variables that come into play including time constraints and access to technology, communications in a transaction.

I can think of a dozens scenarios that are going to limit "public postings". Here is just one where I was the buyer. I was waiting to meet my wife for lunch just as she shows up, I am scrolling through my email and see an add pop up on a site for an item I want. I happen to know the seller from a previous transaction and I have his cell #. I text him really fast "I'll take the 6.5 swede brass" using the voice to text function." He text's back "in mtg u got it".

You really think we are both go stop what were doing to go post publicly using our thumbs, so people we don't even know have immediate knowledge that an item in a "want ad" is no longer available?

Understood. That checks out.
