Do what you want. I have used basic rings and if I spend 50-60 for base and rings that is a lot. My favorite is the standard Leupold rings. Never lapped one single set of rings in 45 years, and never had a problem with rings and scopes. I have had crooked actions and it shows up instantly as soon as I mount a scope either before I tighten ring caps or as soon as I put the bore sight in the barrel. So weird how I have been so "lucky" and what did I do for 40 years before I got one of those fancy "torque" wrenches that I torque well over the new internet specs. Old stubborn fart I am and I know it.
