Caliber combination for prairie dog hunting?

I take 22 mag maybe 150 yds, 223 to 400 yds 55 v-max, 22-250 with 55 gr and 68 v-max, 6 creed with 87 VMax
Switch out often to allow barrel to cool. When I get to a new town I always start with the 22 mag, clean up the close ones and then go from there. Obviously the 6 creedmore is for the extra long shots.

This sounds like a sport that takes years to acquire all the gear for.

220 swift and 22-250 were my favorites
Have been known to use a 7 mag on ones over 720 yards in cross winds.

Well I have been at it a while!!! LOL

And to add a comment, all of those rifles, except the 22 mag have a good scope with exposed turrets for quick dialing. That is a major part of the fun of it for me is to try and hit a high % of the shots no matter the distance.

To save on buying another caliber setup for my Dillon would it be wise to get another 223 upper in a slow twist?
That'd be cheaper for sure, but do you have issues with the 55gr vmax coming apart in your 1-8? Have you tried the new 62gr ELD-VT? 77gr TMK would be fine to.

Jbird, I have a 20Practical BHW barrel for sale or you can buy the whole upper if you want. PM me.

My current upper isn't finished yet. Still waiting on backordered bcg and scope. I have yet to try anything in it. Are bullets coming apart in 1:8 a real thing at 223 velocities?

Not normally, but you mentioned a slower twist. The only reason to do that is if something is coming apart. If the 55's shoot fine, run the 8 twist, or even get a 7 to shoot the heavy 22's.
