Started load work for a friend. He has a savage axis .243 the original one. No accutrigger, nothing special. Paid $249 for the rifle.
Topped with red field 6-18 scope also around the $250 at the time.
Clean to bare metal and went with a soft load for pressure to start.

75gr hammer hht
Stabal 6.5
Starline brass
Fed 210
Got a perfect 3600fps 10.6 fps spread
Out of this 22" barrel and zero pressure. Seems very soft to shoot even. Have to say not bad for 300 yards cheap rifle off a snow and ice covered bench.
Plus the biggest excuse is I can't shoot well compared to most in here.

I've got a load worked up with some 100 grain spire points (lots of old 6mm pills in the stash) and I'm hoping 6.5 stabl works well in this and a 6.5 creed. I'll have my initial results Sunday morning at the range

Just went and confirmed. It's shoot so good at 3600 the higher groups made more speed and I'm sure if I got higher the groups would tighten back up. But I'm happy with it as is now.
