For bedding I fill the groves of the nut with putty. Then do two/three wraps with blue masking tape. This helps give mass to the epoxy where the recoil lug sets but still allows everything in front of the lug to be free floated.

I only had the one image of my pepper(grey) varmit pro stock with the deer on a howa. I restocked my cousins sako av with the coyote colour. Came out really nice. Installed pillars and bedded both.

Barrelnut, I was thinking that was the procedure, and glad you chimed in.
I had read that somewhere, but wasn't quite sure, but it makes sense.

Really like the pepper.
Did you have any issues with internals, during bedding?
Have heard tell of cracks showing up when opening up for compound!

Just as a point of interest, has anyone used the Bobby Hart stock for SAVAGE?
I had one on a long action Remington Sendero, and it was awesome.
They make one for blind magazine, which is what I have now, and don't mind. Curious!

I am about to build my 3rd savage on a pro varmint. I pillar bed them, floating everything in front of the lug and everything behind the sear.

I never had any problems with cracks. On the vanguard I only enlarged the holes for pillars. On the sako, the stock was made for the l61r, and the measurements to the screw holes matched so we ordered it, but apparently the sako av has a longer rear tang by about 1/2". I carved that out with a dremel while my cousin stared over my shoulder telling me to not take too much while I told him I will take exactly as much as I need lol. The beauty of glass bedding is the compound fills any whoops.
I think they're fantastic stocks, fit, finish, everything.

I don't own one of these nor have I used one, but i really like the vertical hand grip - not really tacticool motivated...just like how a rifle fits me.

I own a model 11 trophy Hunter in 6.5 creedmoor that I put a Boyd's prairie Hunter stock on and the fit was perfect. I couldn't have been happier. It did improve my groupings a little bit. One thing you want to be sure of when buying a boyds. If you put it on anything with substantial recoil you must put in pillars and glass bed. You do this and you will have a wonderful rifle package. That said, I would suggest you consider a bell and Carlson medalist m-40 stock. They're not much more expensive and will last a lifetime. Plus no need to pillar bed because they have an aluminum bedding block. Just my two cents.
