When it is an improved or superior product design then I'll look at it. When it is a clone then it's just greed on the part of the mfg or seller and I've no interest in lining their pockets.
The problem with a patent is that no one but the patent owner can enforce it. The Gov't will only say "They did it first and like this" and nothing more. Defending a patent can run into some very large numbers in litigation. I know of a local small company that went broke defending a trademark that another, much larger French company wanted. Word got out and no one in that sport would buy the French product, but the ignorant masses thought it was the same product.
