I have owned a Cooper 520 for over 20 years. It's a 6.5x2384 with a light varmint, 26", 1:8" barrel. It's been dead reliable, accounted for dozens of hame animals and coyotes out to 1200 yards. Still holds the very consistent sub.35MOA groups as when new. With over 1000 rounds down the tube, IF I ever wear the barrel out, Cooper will replace it for $125!

I have two Gunwerks rifles and they are phenomenal hunting rigs. Both rifles shoot 1/2 MOA and came that way right out of the box. You wont get one for 5K ready to shoot with a scope and all but the rifles are fantastic. Just my opinion. I have never built a custom rifle so I cannot speak to that but I am sure there are plenty of guys on here that can point you in the right direction for that as well. Good luck.

Yes they are a lot more expensive than that. I'm wondering why they are $10k including the scope and load development, is it far superior parts? Seems like a lot of guys on here can build top notch custom rifles using the same parts for like $5k plus the scope.

I'm having a custom 30 Sherman Magnum built - Lone Peak Razor, Wyatt's extended, 26" MullerWorks custom carbon wrap barrel, AG composite adj. hunter, Trigger Tech Special - right around 3500 not including optic.
Go custom and get exactly what you want.

Let's of good choices here. If you don't quite make it all the way to a Gunwerks system, don't hesitate to look at components. I'm pretty passionate about stock design, and I think we have an edge here. Also, our grb offers lots of value for a custom build. Our ammunition will work in a saami spec chamber, it could still be an option with a custom. Glad to help you get it right any way we can. Give us a call if you want chat about options.

I would look at R-Brothers, or Quarter Minute Magnums out of ID. For a custom. Or look at the Seekins Havak PH2 great rifles and you could be into your rifle and a tier 1 scope for about the 5k mark. This is with factor 6.5 prc ammo at 100 yds. The calipers are calibrated for a center to center measurement already. This was the standard Hornady ammo.View attachment 211884

Hey 375 JFJ. Sorry if I was repeating that video. Really bad T Storm here. I thank my phone was freezing up and I didn't know my replies we're going threw. I went the gun smith route to build my guns. They are like half the price of Best of The West, McWhorter, EOL, Gunwerks rifles. When you buy a rifle from those 4 places I mentioned you not only have to pay for the rifle but you also have to pay for their advertising. I thank Gunwerks is the only one who makes their own action. The other ones use like Defiance, Stiller, and Surgeon and just have them put their own name on it. Then they will ask a barrel company like Benchmark, Broughtin, to make barrels for them and make a deal with them saying they will only by barrels from them. Then they have their in house gunsmith put it all together. So by this time the price of that gun is like $8,000 for the rifle only. Another gunsmith I use is Texas Brigade Armory he is in Mingus Tx. Ask for Mike Lau (254) 968-5894. If he is backed up his son is a gunsmith too. They both are very good at what they do. Supper nice. It does take Mr Lau a while cause he does everything himself. His son has his own shop. I thank it took Mr Lau 8 months To finish mine. But not all his faul. He had to wait on certain parts. ( Back orders )

I hate to muddy the water here because there are many men more qualified than I who have already offered sound advice. However, here's my two cents worth anyway. I know the 300WM has a large following and rightly so, it has downed a lot of game, but a perfectly designed cartridge it is not, if you stick to saami specs. The new 300 PRC on the other hand, is a nearly perfectly designed cartridge and equals or exceeds the 300WM in several areas.
Lastly, I have another custom gunmaker to throw in the mix. That being 406 Precision located in Twin Bridges, Montana. They use many of the quality components mentioned in this thread and build rifles second to none in accuracy. Nuff sed!

Appreciate the advice and glad you mentioned the PRC. Someone else mentioned they had one made and I didn't know anything about them. I researched it yesterday actually and was very impressed with what I read. I didn't want to go with some of the much higher caliber guns due to overkill and the much heavier recoil. The PRC seemed to be a great in between the two and offering a lot of the benefits I liked with only a slightly more powerful recoil. I am considering it due to the kind of quality rifle I am getting.

The single target that looks like 1 hole is 10 rounds @ 100 yards. The 2 Orange targets is a 4 shot group at 2300 yards in Brawley California. I have some video of it with my family watching me make those shots. The cameras were not working the greatest. It was like 115-120 degrees out there. Felt more like 150 degrees. Man it was hot. You could not even keep your hands on my truck for more than 3 seconds.

Usually they are reloading when doing load development. Usually but not always it is the load that the gun likes. Very few times have I not been able to get a gun to like a bullet. It's the powder and the charge.

So when they are doing this they send me ammo that they have made and I just continue to buy ammo from them or I buy enough to keep on me? I get the reload aspect I'm just wondering the logistics after they find what works best with my gun.

Check out Mesa Precision Arms in Grand Junction - John and Chad make great rifles. I have a lightweight rifle from them that is super accurate, and can be carried all day. They are great guys to work with as well.

Also, not in Colorado, but makes terrific guns in your price range is RBros. I've taken a 7mm Rem Mag from them all over the world hunting, and it's never let me down.
