Best scope for the money

Back to original post.

In decending price that can be found relatively easily
Bushnell lrts/lrhs (tracking)
Zeiss v4 (glass)
SWFA SS 6x (absolute tank, and possibly the best scope "for the money" on the market)

I have the SWFA 6X. Got it for $250 off the forum. It is an absolute tank. It's on a rock river arms .300BO. Great scope for out to 300 yards.

Edit: rifle is unloaded. I had a mag in for a functions check, since I just finished "building" it.

the fact that I am stupid for not paying 3K for a scope and not talking an 900 yd shot in REAL field conditions. I don't care what anyone else does I just stated my opinions. to me 450-500 yds is long range hunting. if you think 2 miles is long range hunting fine with me

The gear needed for a 450yd shot is a big differentce than the gear needed for a 600+yd shot, to most people on this form 600+ is long range, there for your opinion on our long range hunting does not matter.

it is nice to know YOUR personal LIMITATIONS, just do not push them on the rest of the world.
for the record
the mil considers a 308 (7.62x51) an 800 yard round
the 190 gr 300 win mag a 1200 yard round,
and the 220 smk 300 win mag a 1500 yard round.

300 is not exactly LONG RANGE
( and i agree it is a great scope for the money)

I know. Stuff starts getting wonky past 600. I try and match my scopes to my rifles. So my SWFA 6x is on the .300BO, the SWFA 3-15x42s on a custom .223 and my AR10 308 win, a Weaver Tac 3-15x50 is on a custom .308 Bolt gun, and my Cronus and Weaver Tac 4.5x30x56s are on a 6Dasher and .338 Lapua. I up the tube diameter and magnification range the farther I'm shooting. The 3x15x42 is perfect for me for shooting ~750 yards. That's how I think and plan though. Not necessarily correct.

All the scopes I mentioned could possible help the OP. Below is what I got them for either through the classifieds on LRH, accurate shooter, sales on SWFA, or sales on optics planet.

SWFA 6x ~$250
SWFA 3-15x42 ~ $600
Weaver Tac 30mm 3-15x50 ~ $550
Athlon Cronus Gen 1 34mm 4.5x29x56 ~ $900
Weaver Tac 34mm 6-30x56mm ~$750

All great scopes, cheap, worked for me, cranked on with no issues.

I'm looking to get a new setup, my first thing looking for is my scope, Whats the best scope you can buy for $1000 , now if i have to wait for a used one to come around i will. i was looking at the Vortex Viper PST Gen2 5x25x50 , i will use it for some hunting and long range shooting, Thanks Guys
Night Force SHV by far over a Vortex

For 1K I would say the Athlon Ares ETR. It can be had for $1199.99 at optics planted and you can find a 10% off code at times so that makes it $1079.91 its 80 bucks over your $1000 budget but I think it would be worth it. I have the Cronus BTR and really like it but it doesn't have locking turrets and the Ares ETR does. My next scope purchase will be the Ares ETR.
