Best rings for non-braked 338 win mag

Use the Burris Signature rings and there is no need to lap rings. Have used them on 300 rums, 30-378s, 338s and the hardest kicking SOB I have ever shot, a 378 Weatherby. Scopes never moved.

I have a winchester classic stainless 338 win mag and I'm mounting a Nightforce shv 4-14x56(heavy) on it. I'm have a pic rail installed already because that's what I on everything. Do I need steel rings to hold this scope on? Gun kicks like a mule and the scope is heavy. Would like to keep the weight down. What rings would recommend for this situation?
Put a muzzle brake on it. You will like a hell of a lot better. I use to fire a friend 338 WM in A Ruger Mark 11 for groups. It kick the hell out of me. Late I was able to purchase the rifle. I had a muzzle brake place on it. Now it like a little pup dog. My go to rifle.

Call Richard Near at Near Manufacturing. Easy, fast and the best there is.

What brake brake did you choose ?
I had 2 placed on by Accurate Arms in Missoula, Mt. His brakes are somewhat different that what you generally see. In shooting the rifle I generally get it done in one shot. Not all the time, but far more than having to shoot several times. At the range I use ear plugs. In the field I generally don't have time to put in ear plugs.
The third one I have the option of brake or no brake or a suppressor or thread protector.
The other is I haven't used a muzzle brake that much. I do know it tamed the rifle down to a little pup dog. Fun to shoot.

I have no problem spending the money on quality items. Just looking for personal experience and preference. The barrel is a magnum sporter contour I may be able to sneak it on there with medium rings around 1.00" and the 56 mm objective
Seekins 30mm rings are:
Low .82"
Medium .87"
Medium high .92"
High .97"
Xtra High 1.26"
AR High 1.40"

Don't just order "Medium" rings. If you want 1" high Seekins for a 30mm tube, those are "high" rings at .97".

Arc M10 rings will keep your scope in place.

I don't want to thread the barrel and don't care for a brake while hunting because of the noise and blast coming back at me.
you will be fine on heavier duty alloy rings.
As to putting a bell ringer on the end, I wouldn't unless you feel you need to. My #1 in 338win is totally manageable, but the Browning a-bolt my Pops had was a bear without the boss on it.
