I am reforming brass for obsolete calibers. Right now I an trying to reform 30-30 brass to 8.15x56R. My reforming dies are turning these cases into appropriate straight wall cases, but these are coming out too long for my rifle. Most case trimmers work on "shoulder cases" since my brass is straight wall and they can't work. I use a Forstner press and does not use any additional shell holder, so a trimmer would be nice to have a universal shell holder.

Do you like a particular trimmer? My brass needs to have an OAL of 1.831.

I probably need about 20 rounds, so I may use my metal lathe but not sure how a rimmed case will chuck. I think wrapping a piece of leather might hold the case well enough.

Sorry, rambling

Best ideas?

Wilson looks good, I especially I can clamp it in a vise. I am not sure it will work with a straight case. However they say it will work with 45-70 case. Also want to be sure it will work with an 8mm and 8.15mm. Email to Wilson.

I did a quick search and found they have a holder for .40 S&W which is a short straight walled case so I think you would be good to go. Do a search on the case holders you need. If you can't find one, they can probably make it for you.
