Best ammo for .22lr

I just picked up a Savage Mark 2 and topped it with one of my Sightron scopes, a 4-20x50 S-Tac. The set up works great. My buddy has a Tikka T1X with a Leupold LRP and we're having a blast with these things. We're shooting out to 200 yards and so far, our rifles are shooting the tightest groups with subsonic ammo.

I'm curious about different ammo for this thing and what others are using. What are you guys using as far as rifle/scope set ups and what do you think is the best ammo for the cost?

I have a Ruger Precision with an SWFA 10x on it and it shoots everything really well. I bought 50 rounds of several different brands and it shoots the cheap cci standard velocity very well so I bought several bricks of it. Great fun and practice out to 300 or so yards!

For cheap accuracy I've had good luck with the Standard Velocity CCI ammunition. Federal Gold Medal Match shoots better at 3 times the price. Aguila Match shoots very well for me before the barrel gets warm but then goes crazy. My personal best was with a box of Remington Eley Yellow box. That stuff seems to shoot amazing from my little 22. I'm shooting a Winchester Model 77 with a 3x Weaver on it.

I like plain old standard velocity 40 Gr. lead round nose . My rifle doesn't like the weird
stuff. Buy a brick of Lapua .22's and you will see.

I have a model 34 Remington. One lot of CCI Stinger ammo was fantastic in it. The ammo was 200 feet per second slow. I fired fourteen at 100 yards producing a 7/8" group. When I went to town I couldn't find any more of that lot.

I purchased about a dozen brands to find the best for it. Maybe you could do that also.

I have a browning T22. Likes the regular Winchester or federal red box. Hates golden remingtons. Just need to try and see

22 LR is just so much fun to shoot. Ammo I've found to be very accurate in my guns:
Wolf Match Target
Eley Tenex
CCI Green Tag
Win T22 (do they still make this?)
Federal Gold Medal Match
That's the pricier stuff.

On the less expensive front:
CCI Blazer
Remington Thunderbolt
Federal Champion
CCI Standard Velocity
Win SuperX LRN Match

What I know is every rifle will have it's own favorite. Just gotta buy lots of 50 round boxes and test each rifle to figure out what it shoots best. Sometimes you luck out & it's the cheap stuff.

My Ruger 10/22 loves Aguila Golden Eagle Match Rifle, I got a couple of old bricks left from my old CZ that uaed to like it and now the 10/22 likes it

My Anchutz likes Federal Gold Medal Match best and then Wolf Match Extra.

Eley Match and Target also have grouped well for me in the past and like KyCarl mentioned Lapua is very good as well.

Agreed, but found out that another gun will eventually like it. Like the Eley Match, still have 2 bricks from another Anchutz I had butt Wife's Browning Buckmark loves it. So I just hold on to them and keep them in the safe with lots of Silica and no problem
