Best 28 Nosler Round

Looking for some seasoned 28 guys to direct me to the hardest hitting factory loaded elk round in a 28. Looking at the terminal ascent of course because the trophy bonded bear claw family is iconic! Also looking at the 175 grain Nosler trophy grade, along with the 160 grain trophy grade. Lastly the 180 grain Berger high bred!
Please enlighten me fellas!

What ever one shoots the best in your rifle. Factory ammo usually isn't the best, so just find the most accurate.

If the 180 hybrid ammo shoots, I'd absolutely shoot that.

Here's a wound channel from a 28 Nosler with 180 hybrid at 300 yards on a big bull caribou that was quartering away.

What ever one shoots the best in your rifle. Factory ammo usually isn't the best, so just find the most accurate.

^^^^This^^^ I know you said looking for terminal performance reports but unless you are talking about evaluating detailed reports of similar distance, shot angle, and shot placement across each ammo type and various distances etc with a decent sample size. What you will have is anecdotal data at best and anomalistic performance at worst.

I am not trying to belittle your request. What I am trying to suggest is that even 10 reports saying X bullet was great and 4 reports saying Y bullet was bad is likely to be fairly useless because you are likely to be missing relevant data such as verified point of impact.

A real world example, I ran across two cow elk hunters loading their elk into two pick-ups and they were very calmly describing the efficacy of their one shot kills. I asked them if they needed help and they were appreciative. Upon noticing the wounds in the animals I asked the shot distance. They said they got a double both from the same herd at the same time - "a lazered 250 yards, that Federal National Match is great hunting ammo". One had a hole below the left eye and the other was clearly a spine shot. I highly doubt that is where they were aiming.

Any of the ammo you listed put into the vitals is going to work.

There's a big difference in hand loads and factory loads in the 28. I havnt ever shot factory because I have a custom chamber for 195 bergers. But you need to shoot everything and figure out what works the best in your rifle. There's a big difference between 1" groups and 3" groups at 100 yards, especially when you want to shoot distance. I will tell you that there's not many factory loadings, it doesn't matter what is the best terminal performance if it doesn't shoot moa or better.

Bonded bullets and solids will always have the best terminal performance over cup and core.

My buddy just sent me a link to where I can buy those bad boys ! Got a cox of those ordered as well! I think we might have a winner as long as the gun likes them! That's impressive!

We've killed a lot of bulls and deer with the 180 berger. It does the job and is accurate in 28 nosler, 7 mag and STW.l
