Berger to introduce 7mm 195 gr EOL Hybrid Hunting Bullet

With 90 pages to scroll through- let me just ask first- has anyone loaded these bullets or a 190 7mm STW with us869?

From some of my other loading pursuits this combination looks to hit the power curve of that powder in the sweet spot. I do not have rl 33 and my local stores dont carry it.

So i do have a few bullets and was just wondering, i had used reloader 22 with the Matrix 190s but I think the combo was too fast a powder. it did hit 3050, but it was being pushed too hard.

At normal hunting distances of 1000 yards or less, can someone show me the ballistic advantages of the 195 over the 180's?

At 1000 yards, with all conditions being equal, including muzzle velocity out of my 7mm STW. Here is the results according to my ballistics calculator...

The 180 Hybrid retains 1,753 fps, 1,229 ft-lbs of energy, drops 253.4", and drifts 26.7".

The 195 EOL Hybrid retains 1,863 fps, 1,503 ft-lbs of energy, drops 241.3", and drifts 23.1".

So, there definitely IS a noticeable difference from my ballistic charts, if I can push them to the same velocties as my 180's.

Mud runner,
Thanks for the response.
I don't think however that they can be to same velocity. I think the 195's will be going about 100-150 fps slower. So, curious what the readings would be based on that.

Although I haven't run the numbers for this particular combination, I have run similar analysis in other calibers. For instance, I ran this analysis for my 300RUM when i was evaluating the 208Amax vs. the 215 or 230berger hybrids. Given that at the moment the longest distance I can shoot with any regularity is 1100 yards, I decided on the 208amax. In this case, and I think in the case of the 180 vs. 195 in 7mm, the speed of the lighter bullet will 'win' out to a certain distance, then the BC of the bigger bullet will take over. Continuing with my example, the 215 or 230hybrid didn't start to 'win' until the distance got beyond 1200 yards. So although the 215 and/230 is a sexier bullet than the 208, in this case the 208 was a better bullet. This is a long way to say that my educated guess says that the 180 will likely be a outperform the 195 at 1000 or closer.

The velocity I used was 3,000 fps. Which IS attainable with the STW and 195's.

I agree with MudRunner that 3K is doable with a STW and a 195 even in a 26". Especially in a 28" or longer barrel. But with a 180 under the same pressure conditions you should get 130 to 150 fps more from my experience with both bullets. The added velocity from the 180 makes the comparison very close at 1000 yards and the biggest difference will be with the 195 arriving with more energy. Past 1000 yards the 195 will start to look better and that advantage will steadily increase with distance.

Said more succinctly, but that's what I said :)

To get 3150 fps out of a 180 hybrid in my 27" Shilen barreled 7stw all I did was walk up rl26 'till she hit speed.... sorry thing is she liked 2900 fps for accuracy....
To get 3,000 fps from the 195 I'll have to run up another couple of powders; I've run up rl33 and rl50 and rl33 shows the most promise, but lands at 2960 fps for a good, safe load. rl50 simple wasn't burning uniformly enough for me with this combo and the ex spreads were over 80 fps.
I'll likely look at retumbo and possibly one of the older rl powders, but I'm already at 2960 fps with 1/2 moa accuracy.... what am I really going to gain??

Why do I feel like Retumbo would be worth a try? The 7RM folks have been able to squeak 50-150 fps more out of it than H1000 in the 7RM, generally speaking anyways. Just a thought I guess.

EOL box for blog 2
We are thrilled to announce that our recent tests were successful, and our new 7mm 195gr EOL Elite Hunter is now available!
This bullet was inspired by Bob Beck, host of Extreme Outer Limits. Bob is building some exciting rifles with the capability of shooting these extremely aggressive bullets. Bryan Litz accepted the challenge of designing this bullet to not only have the highest ballistic performance of any 7mm bullet but also to overcome the difficulties in shooting heavier than standard weights. Bryan's Hybrid nose design for these bullets is purpose built to exceed all others in BC and be easy to tune in many different rifles.
These bullets can be ordered through a Berger Bullets dealer or from Extreme Outer Limits.

3000 fps is definitely attainable. I shot a few more groups this weekend out of my 7 STW that topped out at 3205. my lowest speed in a nine shot string was 3132. I shot 3 groups with 3 different charges of VV N570 (84 gr, 84.5 gr and 85 gr) I'm just starting to see a light extractor mark at 85 grains. She really liked the 84 gr load that averaged 3145 fps.

These velocities also confirm my theory that the STW and the 28 Nosler are even more similar than I had originally anticipated.
