Berger to introduce 7mm 195 gr EOL Hybrid Hunting Bullet

Phil,

I think you misconstrued my response; if and when the 195 is out, get the required barrel twist rate (which is already available from various barrel manufacturers and most members already know what is required esp. those that follow this thread religiously) to stabilize it as you noted, no need to wait for any "standard" ... "we" don't need no stinking standards :)rolleyes:) to be established by whoever to enjoy the benefits ... that's all I'm saying.

Cheers!

Ed
FEENIX,
Got it! Stay tuned!!

In my head this feels like maybe a little bigger slug than a guy might use in a 7RM. I am thinking this bullet is probably gonna do best in the faster 7's, huh? I am thinking about doing a 7/300 win for them. Maybe an STW. Would the 7RUM be worth it? Any other 7 derivatives I should be considering? I think the 7/300 or STW probably rank toward the top of the list

Since you're considering the 7/300 Win Mag maybe you'd consider other wildcats such as the 7/375 Ruger. Somewhat shorter and fatter case than the belted H&H parent. Then there's the now-standard 28 Nosler, although you'd then be stuck with Nosler brass (expensive and relatively soft). Other than the sole-source brass, I think the 28 Nosler is one of the better big 7s available.

After seeing what a 308 win will do with the 215 Berger Hybrid, I think the 195's will compliment and bring some new long range capabilities to about any 7mm offering. Given it has the appropriate twist rate. Especially the 7-08's But my choice will be the 7-300 to do my testing.

I agree. And look forward to seeing your results Jeff.

Cool. I bet get after an 8 twist barrel and see what you guys find during testing.

Performance wise, where does a 7/375 ruger compare velocity wise with the 7/300 and 7STW?

I have gotten over 3200 fps with 180's from a 30" 7mm-300 with 180 gr bullets but prefer to rum them about 3150~3175, and I got 3025 from a 22" with a load just below max. But the catch is, for me, the 7mm can easily be taken overbore and barrel life becomes a huge issue for me. I only got between 800 and 1000 good rounds from my last STW and even less from a RUM and a 7 Lapua. This was the draw for me to try the 7-300 and we have not lost a barrel in one yet with over 1000 rounds from some of them.

Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?:)

Jeff

I can see that. I would like to get at least 800 rounds on a barrel. Hopefully I could attain that. I think the 195 had the chance to be about right for me. I shoot mostly deer and antelope but the occasional elk gets thrown in there. So this could give me a little flatter trajectory than my 7RM with 180 hybrids plus add a little extra energy to the elk. My last resting on my 7RM had me under 1/2 MOA at 1062 yards but the barrel on my sendero isn't a very speedy one so I would like to get a little more pop. 2950 fps or more would be perfect for my purposes if I could attain it

I didn't catch a release date when reading through the thread. Either I missed it or it hasn't been specified yet. Anybody have any idea?

3350 fps @ 781' elevation with the 180g VLD is what I'm seeing. (7mm Allen Magnum chambering)

I introduced Mrs. Coyote to one while in Texas this Spring at 867 yds. Cold, clean bore shot too. :D

Mr. Coyote ran off at the "thwock" but came back about 15 seconds later wondering why the Mrs. wasn't following him. I missed - forgetting to adjust elevation for the dirty bore.

He took off and luckily my buddy shot him about a minute later with his .338-06.
