Berger Hunting Bullets "Performance"

180gr VLD (.284) drop deer like they had a heart attack!

And no more cucumber jokes - I spilled coffee all over the place when I fell out of my chair laughing.

.284 168 VLD's are also bad medicine for whitetails... Dropped 2 this year on back to back days. First ran 15 yards, 2nd hit the ground where she stood, like Zeus hit her with a lightning bolt...

After seeing them perform on game first-hand, Bergers have become my new favorite hunting bullet, and have been my #1 target bullet for a couple years now.

My new Rifle I ordered is a Cooper MDL 21 Phoenix 20 Var Targ....................... @ $1989 To see if it shoots as good or better than a Custom Rifle...............My first Custom Rifle was an expensive nightmare..................

Sometimes, its best to find out yourself rather than lean towards others peoples shooting bias.

There are people that swear by them and those that hate them.
Anytime an animal does not drop in its tracks there must be something wrong with the bullet after all no one here ever makes a bad shot or takes a bad angle so it must be -----the bullets fault:rolleyes:
I have noticed this trend as well.....That's part of today's "progressive" society. Nobody will accept blame for anything, even if it blatently their fault.

There is only 1 viable reason for a custom rifle being an expensive nightmare....And that responsibility rests solely on the shoulders of the gunsmith who built it. If he does his job right, and it still won't shoot, then he was sold a bad barrel (it does happen...Anything man-made has the potential for failure), and the barrel company should replace it with a new one at no charge. And the cost of the new barrel work and install done should NOT be reflected in your bill.

Don't get discouraged with custom rifles. A *** gunsmith can leave a bad taste in your mouth....Find you a good honest gunsmith with a really good reputation with fair prices. Then you'll learn to love custom rifles again, and it won't cost you nearly as much.

I tried Berger bullets for hunting last year (270WSM, 140gr VLD hunting). I shot a big bodied muley in Colorado at 318 yds. The bullet entered broadside in the lungs. Deer ran about 30 yds and dropped. I was amazed at two things; 1. the amount of internal damage (the lungs literally poured out when I dressed him, and the top of the heart was destroyed, although the bullet impacted a good 6" above the heart (fragmentation?), and 2. no exit hole and not one drop of blood (fresh snow, hard to miss). Only one example means nothing, I know, but for me, considering the accuracy, performance (as experienced by many), I'll keep using them.

Funny you guys mentioned that ..............I have a good friend who HATES anything 6mm He had a Browning 78 6mm Had an antelope tag and shot at a Buck four times. Antelope ran off.........................Because of that experiance he will not have anything to do with a .243 diameter Cartridge.

Has told me numerous times that a .243 is NOT a Deer or Antelope Cartridge. When I had a .243 AI built for Marmonts and Deer I was told that that was the Stupidest thing you have done and was told to get out of his home....................... He has since then gotten worse.

He is a great friend until you disagreed with him..............................

As far as he was concerened the only bullet worth hunting with was the Nosler Partition................................and dont disagree with me.
