Berger 215's in 300 win mag

Jeff,
Sounds like that rifle is shooting well for you and with good velocity. I hope to get back out this evening and try 76.0 and 76.5 grains.

Yep, took her out this after noon and was drilling a hole in a grapefruit sized target at 800 yards, then again at 1100 with a 11 mph 9:00 wind. So took it to 1744 yards and was all around a 1 moa target. Not bad in that wind for a lowly ole 300 win.:D

Hope your comes together for ya. I look forward to your results, stay after it.

Jeff

Made it back out tonight to shot. Tried 76.0, 76.5, and 77.0 of H-1000, WW cases, 215 Federal primers, and 215 Bergers. Not sure if I pulled the one with 76.0 grains or not. Don't be shy tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Jeff are you using Federal primers, if so are you using the 215's or 215M's?
Thanks,
Jon

I usually use the FED GM 215 M's in the 300 wins.

What do those groups measure?

How far off the lands have you been?

Any mirage?

Jeff

Jeff,
76.0 - 1.347 CTC
76.5- 1.334 CTC
77.0- 1.72 CTC
I have been 0.010, 0.050, 0.090 off of the lands, with 0.010 and 0.050 both looking similar with a slight edge going to 0.010.
No mirage on this group.
Thanks,
Jon

Tagging in also I can't get my hands on any 215's but have been shooting the 230's so far they are doing ok. Interested in your results, so I'll be watching.:D

Would you mind trying some loaded with 76 gr and load a few in the lands .010" and some -.040" off the lands? That is what I would do next. I am scratching my head here a little. But I think now we should revisit seating depth to see what happens between these two loads.

Jeff

Made it to the range and found that 0.010 jam opened the groups up to a little over 3" at 200 yards and 0.40 looked really good for the first to shots at around 3/8" then I think I pulled the 3rd shot, because it landed 2" low. I will load 6 rounds of the .040 off and try them to confirm.
Thanks,
Jon

Ok great. Not that it matters as all rifles are different but my rifle is at -.040" off the lands.

Jeff

Went to the range 3 separate times today. The first trip showed promise with them seated 0.040 off of the lands, but one of the shots dropped 2" low. Loaded 6 more up and headed to the range. Two of the shots printed in about 0.70, then the next three landed about 2" to the right in about 1- 1 1/4" group, then the last shot landed in the first group making it a 1- 1 1/4" group. This testing was at 200 yards. So after this I headed home and took a
8.5-25x50 vari-x III off of my .308 and put it on this rifle. Loaded some more rounds at 0.010 and .040 off of the lands and headed to the range. I'm beginning to think it is me. What do you guys think? The picture is the group shot with the second scope.
