Bergara barreled action 6CM instead of a custom (at least for now)?

I have a MDT ESS chassis I have been building up for long range work, might try some local PRS type shooting along with coyotes, etc. I was going to go with a full custom action and a Bartlein barrel, the works. I can pick up a complete Bergara Premier barreled action for about what the barrel would cost and less than half of the combined custom cost. I'm really considering just putting it together and shooting it at least for now. I have a couple of other rifle projects that could use the attention and funds.

My question, what have been your experiences with these? I know it isn't a custom action or barrel but for now at least, seems like a good choice. How do they compare? The actions I have felt are very nice even compared to some full custom stuff.

I would prefer a controlled feed but that really isn't that big a deal for this application. I would prefer a mechanical ejector. The barrel twist is a little slower than I would like at 1:8. It will take my Triggertech trigger and fit the MDT chassis. What am I missing?

Thanks!

Dave

My Bergara hmr is very accurate. Mine isn't the pro series and it shoots excellent. My buddy has an Bergara premiere long range and it shoot excellent too. If you need to save money I wouldn't be scared of the action and barrel your looking at.

I have two Bergara B14 HMR purchased this year one in 6.5 Creed and the other in 7mm Remington Magnum, they are both very accurate. I have only had time to load develop the 7 mag right now and is shooting .749 group at 100yds with 110 rounds down the barrel, the 6.5 Creed only has 5 rounds down it right now, the sighting in was at .5 MOA at 100yds. I purchased two for less than I paid for my Custom built 28 Nosler and they shoot just as good.

The only thing to consider is future use, I don't remember exactly what it was but isn't there something with the bolt nose or something that makes truing a Bergara difficult, or at least not as easy as say a normal rem 700? Wanting to true up that action for a custom build down the road may not be in the back of your mind, but it's something to think about at least. Personally I'd prefer a Tikka over the Bergara but it wouldn't work with your existing components so the bergara makes sense ... another (even cheaper) option is getting a Rem 700 in the cartridge / specs you like and dropping in your parts and with that you'd probably see similar accuracy with an action better suited to something custom in the future.

Will do. I have had the Tikkas through here and wasn't as impressed as many are. They have shot and functioned well and the owners are super happy with them. To me the Bergara feels much better - smoother and more solid plus it uses the Rem 700 inlet and triggers. I don't mean that as a dis on the Tikka, just my preference. I haven't been into the bolt to know what would make it more difficult to true but suspect is is the "floating" head they are touting. I guess we'll find out shortly. If it proves to be too much hassle I will just go back to the original plan of a custom action. Was leaning towards a Bighorn. I have a Heavy barreled 308 Rem 700 here but it is't a stainless. Nothing wrong with it and I hate to tear into it and just have a compromise from what I want.

Thanks for the replies.

Here is the chassis with the Rem in it. Hopefully by the end of the week it will get switched out.

It does have a floating bolt head and cones nose. He did get the premier series I believe correct?
