Belted vs. non-belted for accuracy.

Belt or no belt... They can be just as accurate as each other. Doesn't matter if the thread is almost a decade old...Facts are facts.

I saw Kirby's post and thought WOW he must be catching up. I never see him on here anymore. Always enjoyed reading his input. Because when the BS stops and you have to put it on target. He, Shawn B&G ltlr Joel and many many others put up exactly what they said, exactly how they said it!!!
I talked with Steve from Hammer bullets a short time ago. He sent me acouple of 7mm 177's I put them on the optical comparator next to the 197Sierria. If your hunting with a 8tw up high or in my case we have 2 7tw rifles in production. Wow a sure killer of all things with consistency that can mitigate the lower BC(should hold vertical with much easier to achieve sd.
The meplats at 30x were exact, weight on my beam scale exact. Then add in you can push these to any velocity envelope.:cool:

LOL, I felt the same thing. I must have seen him in my local Scheel's store twice in the last 4 years or so but did not had a chance to talk to him. Not much word out in the street or local Facebook posts if he had caught up on work yet. Hopefully, he'll start posting again.

Even though it is an OLD post, it is still a good topic to re hash for the younger members. There are so many YouTube experts now days that lots get lost in the translation and even though some do not agree with some things, after a good discussion the truth comes out just like in this thread.

All case designs have there purpose and can effect the accuracy potential if not loaded correctly. But if loaded correctly, they can all be very accurate.

If something interest you or you have a question, do a search for it and you may find the answer or at least a good comparison in the differences of opinion.

I'm honestly surprised that new case development hasn't involved just removing the belt from the tried and true magnums. 7 mag, 264 win mag, etc. Why reinvent the wheel? If the belt is the issue, just retool to produce without the belt.

They have, since everyone these days has belt-a-phobia. When is the last time you saw a new SAAMI spec belted magnum cartridge hit the market? I can't [off-the-top] think of one designed in the US market, in the last couple decades, other than the 6.5x300 Wby, but that's simply because all Weatherby cartridges have belts, and it's based off the long-time existing .300 Weatherby Mag.

Sadly, everyone blames the belt on their problems, but half the time it's a poorly cut chamber, and the other half is lack of knowledge of die setup for belted mags. And honestly, since belted mags mainly headspace off the belt, neck-sizing them once they're fire-formed to your chamber really helps to alleviate having issues. I've never had any gun, chamber, brass, or reloading issues from any of my many belted magnums, so I have no problems owning and shooting them.

Agreed! Perhaps it's me but the old search function was better than the current one.

I don't think it's you, Feenix. Every time I try to use it I get something like keywords are too long, too short, or too common. Guess that covers the entire spectrum unless I was going to do a search on Einschwiegr Mehallivitch! Sorry, off topic rant here !

L:DL!
I search with Google and add the name of the site at the end like this.

Google search string: belted magnum accuracy - longrangehunting

I believe this is they same method the older search function that was removed worked. Good luck.
