Behind enemy lines in CA. Need to escape. Need help

I retired from law enforcement in Los Angeles. Trying to figure out which western state to move to. I am looking at Idaho, Montana, Utah, or possibly Wyoming. I need to be close to elk and mule deer. Lived in California my whole life and can't wait to leave. High taxes , too crowded, ------ gun laws , and too ---- liberal.

I retired out of Southwest Area to S. Utah, Cedar City area. Lots os Retired LEOs here. Elk, lion, mulies, and antelope. Problem is, everyone hunts here. Hard to get drawn, for some reason N Utah is easier. Still, lots of open land; mesas mountains, sagebrush desert, canyons, you name it

North Utah is easier to draw because they don't have the quality of animals that southern Utah has. Lots of N Utah hunters put in for south eastern and south western Utah. I am from south eastern Utah and it has a great hunting. Assuming we can keep the federal government from doing more land grabs it should stay that way.

Okay, I will just own this fact that I am a 4th gen Californian, but all generations have been Reagan style conservatives and are from rural CA. With that said, I just retired from Law enforcement and am looking for a safe semi rural place to raise my family. Gun rights are paramount, good big game hunting, and the ability to be left alone. I mind my own business, and don't ever want to turn the place i move to into California. Every state I look at, it seems they are not far from becoming blue. I lived in NV and would not even consider it now since the libs have a super majority there, with Reno and Vegas controlling the state.

Wyoming, hands down, I too was in law enforcement in CA, left in 97 and never looked back. I have to come back once in a while to visit family, but I don't stay long.

I'm also a generations deep Californian and this will be the first year I will not be purchasing a hunting license here. I'm done with it here.

If it weren't for my kiddos, I would be in Wyoming. But Idaho and some parts of Montana are worth looking into. Same with Texas... Colorado, Nevada and Utah are past the point of no return.

Temp don't reach 30 below around here like Montana and other north Central mountain states. I know in Montana, they don't like folk from California as they drove property values sky high around Bozeman, Ennis areax. Point of interest, my best friend is the Great great grandson of John Bozeman. So we go to Bozeman to fish and check out the Museums for info in my friend. He was invited up to the University of Montana when they were going to take John Bozeman's property in the Museum. I guess I've been lucky as my parents knew Richard M. Nixon when he was a Clerk in his parents store in Whittier, CA. My uncle (Sgt. Preston) was the best friend of Ronald Reagan. Nixon help me when I had problems with the Army, got it cleared up within days. .

Wyoming is getting too crowded a lot of oil field workers that don't care about the land ( maybe running from something where they came from ) a lot of Canadians that want to bring their socialism with them the way that the old Wyomingite thought and took care of the land is gone. A bunch of liberals that have moved into the state that said they wanted to move away from the political B S where they came from but brought it with them the whole of the U S is changing the town that I grew up in was 1500 people when I went in the service in 1973 and 12000 when I came home in 1976 it hasn't gotten any smaller since then and most of the other towns and cities have grown just as fast . As with any place that grows you have good and bad that come with it . When I was 15 years old I had a great Aunt from Canada that told me Your welcome to come visit Canada but don't think about coming to stay we don't want you

I live in Idaho but I'm from California originally. I'm also a Real Estate agent so I work with a lot of Californians moving here. Most are good conservative type people, but I think people too easily forget why they moved, they don't get involved and work to prevent their new home from turning into their old home. We don't have near the number of rules and crap here. I think some people actually have a hard time not being told how, when, and where they can do something. Vote, get involved, and respect the local ways even if it seems foreign to you.

Arizona-Texas-Utah and believe it or not Washington. Two of my best Friends, both retired one LAPD & one OCSD. In Washington.. One moved to Longview and the other to Ellensburg,Wa. They both tell me it's a strong 2nd amendment state. VERY RED!

Indiana is still pro gun, if you can tolerate the weather...taxes are still low too. Running about $1800 an acre for unfinished land out in the country. Average house prices are around $195k
