I'll start....

Varminting long range, I use a 6mmDasher (Lawton 7500 action) shooting 105Amax and 87Vmax....

I sold recently a Stiller TAC30 308W, but I am replacing it..

Currently being built (waiting on actions)

Surgeon 308W
Stiller TAC300 300WSM

Just ordered a Surgeon for 338LM also...

All these rifles are focused towards LR hunting...

My background, I shoot LR benchrest, but wanted ot take the accuracy of a BR rifle out into the field, so went for a tactical style....

I am very much addicted...

Cheers

i shoot 300wm from my tikka t3 tactical with my march4 LR/T leup optics mounted on top. 300 gives me all the range i need on what even game i shoot and the tikka puts it where i need it to be :D

Hi There 300whinny,

Well, lets see...

I'm sort of new to this long range hunting, and decided to start with a common caliber so I could get my hand-loading skills up - so I decided to go for the ol 308 Winchester.

You can see my rig here.

cheers.

300whinny,
I am using a Remington 700 SenderoII in 300WinMag, blueprinted, lugs lapped and Jewel trigger with a Bushnell 4200 8-32x50 mil dot.
The barrel has been lightly lapped, and it shoots into .25-.50MOA with 200gr Nosler Accubonds @ 3000fps.
I mainly use it for long range shooting of Fallow deer, and the odd Sambar thrown in when I can get onto them with enough light to be able to hit them.
I also have a Kimber 8400 Classic Select Grade in 300WinMag with a Leupold 3.5-10x40 that I use a bit for long range shooting of goats and pigs with the 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tip @ 3380fps. This rifle shoots into .50-.75MOA with this load.
I also use my newly acquired Leica Geovid LRF 10x42 range finding binos. These things are awesome!!!!!!!!!
Cheers.

My current LR rifle is a Ruger custom 240 wby .
It has a 26 inch schillen barrel and holds .25 @ 100m using 100r hornady sp @ 3350fps. I also put a NF3.5-15x50 npr1 scope on it as well as a bell & Carlson stock. It outproforms rigs that are worth 4x as much, just love it.

I am also building a 338 edge on a Weatherby Mkv action with a 28 inch lilija barrel and when i order it a small pain killer break.

Great guys.....

I like to see whats getting used here in Oz.

So, what you guys hunt?

With my new gear I am also looking at a 4 wheeler to carry it around! Also a rangefinder upgrade! Currently using a Leica 1200 but not 100% with the consistancy of ranging. Maybe a Newcon 3000PRO?

Cheers

300,

G'day mate !

Recently went to the 338 edge for long range specialist sambar rig . Extremely impressed. The rifle shoots tennis ball sized groups on steel at 1030 yards. Makes a 20 inch circle on moose look like childs play !

Going bush next week and looking for the 1000 yard stag .

Cheers

30MC with 155gr Scenars @ 3,250fps but after reading the posts on this site been seriously thinking of a 300 RUM.

Hi Guys,

I'm a newby to this site and LRH, but I've been target shooting for years.

I have started out using a shilen actioned rifle in 6.5-284 and a 6BR for practice on steel in the bush. Enjoyed this imensly and so decided to get serious so....

I have just had a 338 Edge/300WSM switchbarrel rifle built by Redback Precision (Pics to come soon) - it has been setup as a switch barrel and has been supplied with a 300WSM barrel as well.

I've shot the 300WSM case before in Longrange benchrest so I have a bit of a headstart with dies etc. The plan is to use the 300WSM for developing my LRH skills further and then working up to the 338.

I also have a 6x47L/308 Surgeon coming from Mr Clancy for mid range shots hopefully not much longer to wait now...

Cheers

Hi Muz,

How about some photos/more details of your switch barrel rig?

I am having Redback rebarrel a Savage for me in 6.5 x 47.

JohnT

Hi John,

The 6.5 x 47 should be a real handy package. I am stoked with the 6x47L he cambered for me, it shoots real nice!!

The 338 Edge consists of:

Manners T2A stock
Rem 700 LA Trued, Sleeved, Bolt lightly fluted, better bolt knob, Rifle Basix trigger. Sleeve has integral 35MOA picatiny rail.
Seekins 338 Lap Bottom metal.
NXS 5.5-22 Mil/Mil scope, NF rings
Maddco 338 HV taper barrel.
SSS 5 port brake

I don't have any pics yet, I should have some in the next few days.

Has been in the build process for about 9 months - mainly waiting on parts. When all the bits arrived Redback took next to no time to put it all together.

And to my utter disbelief my local range banned the use of Muzzel Brakes just weeks before it was finished :( so it has been sitting in the cupboard for the past 4 weeks, I got to run it in at another range last weekend, but ran out of time for load development.

I am hoping to do some load development this weekend - If I can get access to a local property.

Cheers

Muz,

Sounds terrific and 9mths is pretty darn good really. Bummer about the range but my friend who has a 338 Lapua told me that the SSAA range in Silverdale now does not allow the use of 338 Lap & Chey Tac calibres. Said its a Firearms Registry ruling! But OK to use it at the indoor range at St Marys which is only 50m - so what a waste.

I think they just want to make it hard on us.

Look forward to the pics.

regards
John
