Well this is perplexing, conflicting velocity statements in their description? So which is it? I've seen this description on several sites?🤷🏻‍♂️ If it really can't do 4K, it's out for me.

Time to replace my MagnetoSpeed. Nothing wrong with it, I just like the idea of no POI interference and not down range object to hit.

I was going to get a Lab Radar before the pandemic and 2000 mile relocation that lead to a 5 year layoff from shooting and reloading.

The Garmin or Athlon look to be a "better" option and I really like the ability to mount it to an Arca rail right there on the stock.

I am close enough to Olathe KS that I can go to the shop once Shot Show is over.
I dumped my Labrador as soon as I got my hands on the garmin. Would I have bought the Athlon probably but it's the end result that I was the happiest with. Not as finicky nor as shaken when shooting big magnums and the muzzle blast is near the big Labrador face. Each have been a step up in my opinion I just hope they get better more reliable and smaller. Basically give me more for less hahaha,

Where did you get that description showing "3900" fps?

I just read a short article about Athlon coming out with a new chronograph around April 2025. It's called the Athlon Rangecraft Velocity Pro Chronograph. Is it just me or does it look like an exact replica of the Garmin Xero?

My comment about this is on another thread, https://www.longrangehunting.com/th...eat-the-garmin-xero-at-half-the-price.376435/ #s10 and 12.

I waited a long time to upgrade my old sky screen chronograph, I was going to do a Magneto, but do not like hanging stuff off the barrel, then was going to purchase a lab radar, but I had read a lot of people having issues lining it up and missing shots. This past year, decided to give myself a present and purchased the Garmin, based on reviews and not missing shots, I am glad I did, it is great, but at the same time I almost went with the new Caldwell for 100.00 cheaper. If I had not purchased the Garmin, I would definitely purchase the Athlon based on price point just to save the extra 250.00 and it basically looks like a Garmin. Hopefully, the first runs will be as reliable as the Garmin, time will tell. Glad to see another company in the mix with same technology.
Did your old chrono give the same readings as your garmin?

I ran the Garmin along with MagnettoSpeed at the same time and they were within a Foot of each other on MV. The ease of setup was worth it IMO as well as the time saved when shooting multiple rifles at the range during load development and tuning. Size of it is also beneficial from a convenience factor. I can head out and do some real situational type practice and pop the Garmin out of my pack/pocket and have it ready to go in a minute or so.

Caldwell also came out with a similar product to both of these but I've got no experience with it and it's priced higher than the Athlon.

If the Athlon were available when I bought my Garmin I'd have probably bought it. Once I was satisfied the Garmin did everything I wanted I offset the cost of the Garmin by selling my MS for $225.

Has anyone compared the old style chronos to the new Garmin and lab radar for speed . just how accurate is each?
Another question, can you set it up beside the highway and Freek out people with radar detectors in their cars?
yeah. Cool thing about PRS is there's always dude in your squad or other squads that are trying new things. We've had a few people try out the labradar and most guys have the garmin.

They are all over the place. Sometimes within 1 fps, sometimes more depending on the string.
That said, if you manually do the math for SD, they are pretty different. They seem to calculate SD differently, with the Garmin using population SD, and the labradar using sample SD…
