Hey all,
I have a Riverman Gun Works (no longer in business) OAF (Look them up if you need some reading material. Pretty interesting background with the Australian Gov't. and the debacle that is "gun control") chambered in 5.56. OAF stands for Operator Assisted Firearm, which essentially means it is a side charging bolt action rifle, not operated by the typical gas system. I'd like to change the rifle to be a 6mm ARC platform. All I need to do is change the barrel and the bolt. Because it's an OAF, I need a barrel without a gas port hole. I've found one company, X-Caliber Barrels, that will allow me to custom order a barrel, but then I'm into the $600 range, and I can't do that at the moment.

I'd like to get a barrel in 6mm ARC without the gas port drilled. I know I can add an adjustable gas block and shut it off, but I'd rather not.

The point of the post: Do any of you know of a company that creates AR barrels w/out a gas port drilled?

Assuming that it will be under a rail, you could just (1) install a cheap low profile gas block backwards, (2) tap the gas port in the gas block and install a set screw,
(3) weld the gas block closed

if the barrel already has correct
threads for the extension or can be threaded to the extension you can buy an extension and headspace it yourself..

i'd just turn it backwards and keep it upright.

Have you contacted low end barrel makers? They'd probably help an Aussie brother out. Bigger issue might be shipping down there.

I can not recall who I ordered the barrel from, but ~6 years ago I built exactly such an upper here in the PRK. Side charging as well, I call it a "Straight-Pull Bolt-Action". I ordered it w/o the gas port hole drilled. Find a small custom barrel maker who specializes in AR barrels or at least makes them. Leaving out that step shouldn't be too big of a deal. I asked for no GB register either, that took the barrel into the custom zone and added some cost because he had to program a contour specifically for me. He sent it head-spaced to my supplied bolt.
I'm obviously in the US and the barrel came from the US as well. No idea how complicated getting a barrel sent down under might be.

Thanks all. I'm not in Australia. I'm in Idaho. Riverman was contracted by the Aussies to build these rifles for them, and once the rifles were received, the Aussies decided that the rifles essentially "looked too scary". The rifles were shipped back to Riverman, where I then purchased one.

That would be something I'd like as well...

I think I may be on to a company here: https://mcgowenbarrel.com/shop/custom-ar-barrel/
