I know this has been kicked around a bit in the past, but now that more time has past with RL26 being basically unavailable, has anyone got any new info on VV N565 as a replacement? Are you finding that it "pressures out" before reaching the RL26 velocities?

6.5 SAUM 156 Berger EOL Hunter.

I was under the impression that N565 was closer in character to H1000. I like it in my 6.5 PRC and can see myself using it for other cartridges. I have plenty of RL-26 to last me a while before I need a replacement.

Good that you have plenty of RL26. I wish I did. I'm down to my last pound and 1/2. I've read in the past that folks are liking N565 as a RL26 replacement. Thought possibly there would be more opinions/information available now.

I would try retumbo,n565 and h1000. That should be in the order of highest velocity to slowest. I've never shot over 140 grain bullets in my 6.5 saum's. I always use h1000 it just works great and is always consistent and not too hard to find.

You could always look at 6.5 prc load data it's going to be really similar just a grain or two less than the saum.

On a relative side note to those interested .
I have three rifles I chambered in 6.5 Saum with .100 freebore .
Below is some data on one of the hunting rigs with powders of close burn rate .
4 round groups .

N565 did yield about 50 fps more velocity than N 165 before I reached pressure . I can't speak to Reloder 26 . I have limited data on N565 with the Saum but I am running it in 6.5 -284 with 140 s . Does well in it ..

6.5 Saum
Proof 26 inch 8 twist
.100 freebore

300 meters 80-87 degrees

140 Eld .025 into lands
N565 - 56.5 grs - 3041 Avg - 1.4 inches

Reloder 23 - 54.9 grs - 3048 Avg - 667 inches

H4831 SC - 54.5 grs - 3052 Avg - 1.9 inches

Reloder 25 - 58 grs - 3040 Avg - 1.7 inches

H1000- 57 grs - 3047 Avg - 1.97 inches

N-165 - 56.6 grs - 3046 Avg - 1.25 inches

153.5 Berger Hybrid .025 into lands
H1000 - 55 grs - 2916 Avg 1.63 inches

N - 165 - 53 2 grs - 2928 Avg - ..940 inches

I use N165 exclusively on my 30 inch tube for long range prone high power competition with 153.5 .

H1000 is a recent addition to the 26 inch proof and 26 inch krieger barrels and seems to lay down well around 2920 fps .and 2960 fps as does the N165 with 153.5 .

Fyi
