Alabama deer hunting

There is no limit on does, if you're able to hunt every day, you can shoot one. God knows I've tried. But after a while you get to the point of( I really don't want to fool with another one today)!
I've got a small list of people who request a deer each year, once I've got what I want we start shooting deer for others. And no, I don't get anything for this service but friendship, and the ability to hunt on some choice property!
Be nice to others, they are usually nice to you.

Heck, about fifteen years ago it was two does per day or a buck and a doe per day. No limit!

That's a bit more generous than NC where I usually hunt. I just might have to book a hunt there next season.
It is much more generous than here in Minnesota where you are allowed one deer per season, period. You can take that deer with a bow, modern firearm or muzzleloader, but you can only tag one deer a year.

Many states are over-populated with whitetails. For a few of us, taking several whitetails is desirable. Every year, I've got family and friends who ask if I have any venison to share. I'm happy to hunt and share the harvest.
One week, while I was hunting in a camp in NC, I took 3 deer. There were several guys that drove up from Louisiana to hunt during the same week. Sadly, none in their group took a deer. On the last day, I gave them a buck and a doe to take home and split. I thought those guys were going to kiss me. :D

As luck would have it - I drove back to NC in December and took 3 additional deer.

Now, most of the outfitters have all kinds of restrictions. The outfitter that I'm currently using only allows "one buck and one either ", during a 5-day hunt. Seems overly restrictive for northeast NC where deer are in abundance.

Alabama has something in the 1.5 million deer range, give or take a couple of hundred thousand.

In the mid 80's I saw a petition in a store in Chambers county to allow them to shoot every deer they saw, day, night, didn't matter. They were tired of hitting them on the highway. It had over two thousand names on it.
Insurance companies started lobbying for more liberal season and bag limits. That's when the two does per day or a buck and doe per day started.
There is a running joke here that states, If you can't kill a deer here you need to have your car keys taken away.

I just checked the web site of a few Alabama outfitters. Despite the high population of whitetails in the Black Belt region, they only allow you to harvest a single doe in a week. All kinds of antler restrictions on bucks, including various fines. Doesn't look good for meat hunting.

I typically hunt in un-managed areas where there aren't any "fines". We've taken 8 & 10 pointers in the unmanaged areas. Here's one from last year.
