I know that it's hard to believe that I "can" be serious. This will possibly stir-up some large differences of opinion…..hopefully no hard feelings among any!

Obviously, we all want the best accuracy that be had …..within reason! My qualification list should explain.

The question……What should the maximum, repeatable group size be @ 100 yards for this rifle/cartridge/hunter?

First a few qualifiers:

* The rifle used will be of a very practical hunting carry weight….for normal humans. Assuming, some elevation and steep country and up to several miles per day on foot. I'm placing that weight at 9 pounds….scoped, loaded, slung.

* The rifle will not be a "full-blown" custom job…..it can be a factory rifle or semi-custom that is affordable by the average hunter/shooter that may have a family, bills, ect.

This may help the potential LRH what his/her expectations should be!

* The ammunition can be factory or hand loads

* 600 yards will be the maximum yardage that this will be used on a game animal

Let the debate begin! Thanks in advance memtb

A friend combined a Savage and 6.5 Creedmoor to meet your criteria. She loved it.

I am a Weatherby simp so for me it would be a Mark V Carbonmark in 6.5 Weatherby RPM at 6.9lb, though I'd love to try the new 307 first hand. The Alpine CT is only 6.1lb.

Enjoy.

First, Thanks

Wow….nice lightweights. The Weatherby @ 6.9 pounds….it that scoped, fully loaded, and slung!

And….what would be your group expectations for that rifle be for 600 yards! memtb

I would lean more to the 6. 5 RPM , or the 6.5 PRC . I'm a big fan of the 6.5 PRC ,you can get a little lighter rifle in the 6.5 PRC and still have a lot more punch than the CREEDMOOR.

I hate to be a party pooper, but for 600 yards at 95% of North American game I would go with a .308 in a Howa 1500. Probably splurge and get the Houge stock. Top it with a Leupold 4.5 to 14 scope and call it good.

Not a PP at all.

I prefer the Weatherby version of the Howa 1500. Yes, I simp Weatherby. All stocks fit both. I have not looked at Houge offerings in 5 years or so.

L 4.5-14 would be a fine scope for the criteria. My hunting Weatherbys wear them.

I agree but didn't want to suggest something "new" in the hunting realm. Creedmoor is now the old guy of the 3 (CM, RPM, PRC) so ammo is known to work.

Good ol' 308 would be fine too. ;)

Nothing wrong with the CREEDMOOR plenty of ammo just not quite the punch for a 600 yarder , in my humble opinion. I roll my on so ammo is not a concern.

I failed to adequately address the accuracy capabilities in my OP.

So what to clarify…..what are your maximum 3 shot group size expectations @ 100 yards for an ethical 600 yard shot? 1/2", 3/4", 1"…..? memtb
