If a window licker grabbed himself a uni-throater, made a dummy round of his desired cbto/coal, and got medieval on his barrel and throughout the process never got to the point where his freebore has increased at all...what has occurred?

Spoiler Alert: I'm that window licker. I've checked repeatedly with the dummy round and a bullet comparator and nothing has changed. And I'm still a window licker, that didn't change either.

My goal is to increase freebore. Yes it cuts fast. The point of tangency is not moving towards the muzzle end as I cut. I guess the questions is...

If I continue to increase the depth of cut but do not see a correlated increase in freebore length, what is going on?

if your freebore hasn't increased that just means that it wasn't touching the lands when you started. make sure your barrel is real clean even the copper, back off the adjustment nut and spin the uni throater backwards until you feel contact then set the adjustment nut and cut go slow .010 at a time until you get to desired length

Did that, I'm cutting I can tell by the swarf/chips. No increase in CBTO.

And if it's cutting steel and you're not measuring increasing throat depth... stop cutting further until you figure out why you can't measure the increased throat depth.

It sounds like you're getting metal shavings. You'll have the mother of all Weatherby freebores if you don't find a good method to measure your freebore and you continue cutting.

You know the old saying measure twice and cut once.
What are you using to measure??? What is the "Dummy Round" I suggest that you use something like a Hornady Modified Case to see exactly if you are cutting away the Lands and where your Ogive is and want to be.
You can cut really fast with those Uni Throaters.

take the above advice, your way of measuring is letting you down it needs to be straightened out. the only other possibility is the shavings you are seeing is from cutting a larger freebore diameter and not moving the lands forward.

Yea, I guess I'm just bewildered as to why the freebore isn't moving. Thanks for your input.

Shooters have different ways of measuring so take it for what it is worth.
We use the:
Amazon product ASIN B000PD01SI
Amazon product ASIN B000PD5VLA
You will also need a Modified case. We can make one for you for Free if you send us you Brass Case.
Send a PM if you want more info.
