My Son's 'forever caliber' is a Winchester Coyote in 223rem. 0ne of the originals from the old NewHaven plant with a Wilson 1in8 twist. He shoots deer and prairie dogs with it. Deer with Winchester 64gr SP. Prairie dogs get zapped with Winchester 45gr JHP. lts his only hunting cf rifle
Load for 3 7mm-08s. Don not personally have one but it older sister 7x57 and it works well. Lots of animals have fallen to this cartridge. Build a forever for daughter in this caliber. Lots of 7mm premium bullets for various animals. Great pick.
Yeah...then that makes me 26, 34 and 65!!
I feel 26 some mornings....until I either wake-up or move!
Easiest to stay with 7-08...one bullet for all.

I just bought my wife another Camilla. The first was a Mark V in 6.5 CM. Due to MS, my wife needs a light gun to carry and can't handle much recoil, so the 6.5CM was a great choice. I've been considering a 7mm-08 for awhile for her and hand down to grandkids. I recently bought myself a Weatherby Backcountry Ti in 280ai, very light gun. I had my wife hold it. She liked the weight, but commented her Camilla fits her way better. That was my clue to stick with Camillas and not consider some of the other 7mm-08s out there. Unfortunately Weatherby doesn't make a 7mm-08 Mark V Camilla, so I went Vanguard. Not as light of a gun and trigger isn't the Mark V's, but I hope she likes it. Christmas present, so I will see if she jumps on board.OP look at these two models the Weatherby ,Vanguard Camilla , Or Savages model 11 Lady hunter,hopefully still made in 708,yes I Love the 708 ,keep up your Traditions ,
Try a few Camilla's on for size and see what they think. I like how they handle. Price for the Vanguard was very reasonable.

I'm going 7mm/08 for the exact reason you want, a forever cartridge that can shoot lighter bullets with reduced loads, all the way up to moose/elk capable. I'm looking at Tikka's.

I likely would have gone Tikka, but for my wife loves the fit of her Camilla. I chose the 7mm-08 for what you state. The versatility is great with the 7mm-08.

Any of the .308-based cartridges will never be out of brass for for a reloader. Back in 1988 I bought an A-Bolt for my daughter in 7-08. Cut it down to fit, and she never looked back. She's 52 now and has never wanted another rifle. From the day it came home the A-Bolt has been under an inch with about anything and everything that goes down the tube. We worked up a load with 150-grain Ballistic-Tip that did everything we asked it to do. I would do it all again. So would she.

I just bought a new 7mm-08 myself for myself and my kids. I got the Savage Storm 110 with the Accu-stock, add or remove height for the cheek weld or spacers at the back for length of pull. Absolutely love the gun, buy it and as she grows then adjust it to fit for the perfect fit. It's a great system.
I went in to buy a Tikka and left with that gun.
