7mm ULTRA/180gr Berger Loads

Hi all,

Just bought a box of 180gr VLDs for my 7mm Ultra. Does anybody have any pet loads for this bullet/cartridge combo? The rifle is a stock Remington CDL with a 26" bbl. I've had really good luck with the 160gr Accubonds but I wanted something a little heavier.

That is some good info, thanks. Question: H870 is no longer being produced, correct? If so, does anybody have any good loads with other current slow powders?

Both US 869 and H50 BMG work well, the H50 BMG is less temp sensitive. Start with 92.0 gr of H50 BMG or 94 gr US 869 and work up from there.

lightbulbI hear a lot of good things about each h870 and it's newer corollary H869...I have enough H870 to last the life of the 7 MM Remington ultra mag that I am almost finished building was a 32 inch barrel. So my question today is: with these 180 grain Berger vld bullets, which is the best primer for this powder? Should I go with a primer that sparks more or less.…? I think the powder is spiracle. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Would a magnum match grade primer give more spark and make the 870 less temperature sensitive with dropping temps? In theory? In practice?

I will work up slowly and follow safety precautions of course.

Yes, the load data is conservative because its based on a cartridge overall length of 3.600. And the length of our bullets . Also there is going to be some seating depth testing involved with the VLD to find its seating depth accuracy node. Seating depth testing instructions can be found under the INFORMATION tab in TECH TALK. The title is "VLDs making them shoot".
