7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

7stw, butterbean, dougduey thanks for all your help. I took a look at the Hammer Bullets website and have a couple questions I thought you all may be able to help with. My Remington is either a 1-9 1/4" or 1-9 1/2" twist. I checked multiple times and am leaning towards 9 1/2" more. The hammer site says according to my twist rate I should be running their 131gr. What twist rate and bullet weight have you all found to be a good match.

With the twist rates being 9.25, to 9.5, you are good up to the 168 grain area. I tried some 168 TTSX, Barnes, in mine a few years back, and she wouldn't stabilize them, too long, but would stabilize a Berger. But , me no use no Berger no more.
That's another story. I personally settled on the 145 lrx, bullet. That bullet was absolutely devastating, on target, shot into a DOT, and left my barrel at 3460. Good ole rl25.
One of my other STW's, shot the 162 A Max, like crazy.
So basically, 120-168, you should be good. Nosler AB, are a good bet too, 160 gr.

My Remington barrel was the same as yours and shot the 143 gr Hammer into a ragged little hole

Hey dougduey,these Hammer bullets everyone is talking about,are they target bullets or can they be used for hunting?havent seen them in my neck of the woods.I would like to get some to try in my gun.

RL 26 works well with the 143 Hammer. I got mine up over 3400 fps without pressure issues

Don't bother to try and load develop for the 175gr ELDX. Your twist rate won't stabilize them. I drove myself nuts trying to get them to shoot. Good group, then a flier, then poor group, etc

Doug, I used to use the Barnes 145lrx, had great results, never got one back, and they were match accurate.
I know a lot of company's are coming out with great monolithic projectiles now, so I'm not gonna say mine was better, but what I will say, is tgst you figure out how to get them to shoot, WOW!
NEVER got one back, NEVER tracked a single deer. And that goes for ANY caliber, I have shot them in.
I'm sure Brother Bean can second that.
Those Hammers look pretty cool.

You can never argue with results. My go to bullet in my 7STW was the Nosler 140gr Etip. It shot 0.250 moa all day. Even when my barrel was burned out, they still shot great. The antelope and mule deer I've shot with my STW/Etip combo either dropped in their tracks or took 2 steps at the most. The lungs were basically jelly when I gutted the animals.......total vitals devastation, yet no meat damage. I've got so many boxes of them that I'm hoping my new barrel likes them too. I never tried the 145 LRX, but my rifle really liked the 150 TTSX.

Doug, back when this awesome thread began, myself, and Butterbean, were using almost the same identical load, which included the Nosler, ballistic silvertip. Moly coated. They used to be a better constructed bullet then now, and I mean to tell you, it were as if lightening struck them. Long dead before they hit the dirt. Then they changed ythe jacket thickness, or guilding, metal strength. Then they would blow.
I went through a period where I was looking for something that would stay together. Long story short, without bullet bashing, settled on the Barnes. If yours shoots the 150, then it will love the 145lrx.
I checked out those Hammers earlier, on their website. Very impressive. Steve is a great guy.

Out of the blue here.Does lengthening out your bullets always tighten up your groups?My STW is shooting sub 1/2 moa now at 100yards.Is it worth fiddling with?

you are good to go if you can hold 1/2 moa consistently; you will likely burn the bbl. out without doing markedly better... I'd rather kill stuff...

Yes,load up a bunch of ammo with with the recipe I got and save it to reach out and touch those four legged critters,I sure do like the STW though.
