WildRose, I haven't shot a deer past 280, so I can't say what mine would do beyond that. Like you, I do have great confidence in them. Maybe I should be looking into the Interbonds!
BTW, I had a dear friend, God rest his soul, who swore by heavy bullets in his 7 S&H mag. But he shot a Breneky(sic) H mantle bullet. I wonder if Hornady looked at those German bullets when they developed their Interbonds? I kinda think those were in existence even before Nosler made his partitioned bullets, too. I haven't seem those bullets since Bill was using them, probably 35 or more years ago.
Brenneke was a genius and innovator for sure. He invented the shotgun slug and the first reliable jacketed bullets as well as developing some of the most potent and reliable big game rounds the world had ever seen before or during his era.
The company still exists producing bullets and ammunition for shotguns and the Brenneke rifle calibers.
His designs however cannot compare with the bonded bullets of the modern era or the comparmented bullets like the Nosler Partition. The Partition is probably the most popular American made bullet in Africa.
These older designs however, including the Partition cannot begin to compete with the modern high BC bullets we use today that were all developed in the last half century.
As for the Sirocco, I really love the way they fly and while I've had some problems with overexpansion I've also had them work very well on both deer and big hogs. The handful of failures I've had with them stand out in my mind but they are the exception rather than the rule.
Some of those failures however came at very critical moments for me and very nearly resulted in the loss of once in a lifetime trophies.
As for Brenneke though you ought to spend some time looking him up, he was a truly interesting character and some of his designs were really "out there".
Hornady unfortunately is still showing that production of the Interbond bullets is suspended. I suspect that is due to them betting all their marbles on the ELD-X bullets which they have certainly poured huge resources into.
The ELD-X though seems to be suffering some of the same problems with separation that the Interlock can have particularly on large bodied, heavy animals at short range (sub 300yds) so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it works for them in the long term. Personally I was really disappointed that they went the cannelure route with them rather than the same bonding process used with the Interbond.
I have a feeling that deciding to go that route is really going to hurt them in the long run and I hope I'm wrong because I have a great deal of respect and appreciation for the whole gang at Hornady.
Nosler really blew it inflating their BC's so bad with the Accubond LR series but at least they had the presence of mind to stick with a very good bonded bullet design bettering it's flight characteristics.
One last bit on the Sirocco. For years I'd call them up once or twice a year voicing that with the growth in LR hunting and shooting many of us who like their bullets generally would really like to see them coming out with some heavy for caliber bullets for the 7mm and .30 cal's in particular so that we could get similar BC's from them that we get with bullets from some of the other manufacturers until the last time I called when they told me that the owner of the company really isn't a fan of LR hunting and as a result they would not even consider doing so.
That really left a sour taste in my mouth.
