7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

I like the 180g Berger VLD for my long range work, but since it comes at a price, (single shot only due to seating length), I use the 175g Sierra Gameking. It has a great BC and is a great compromise for when elk and deer seasons overlap.

I just picked up an STW and not sure what bullet I want to use yet. I may be limited to what I can find. Is anyone using the Accubond 168 long range?

If you're limited by twist-rate or personal preference to the 160-class bullets, my recommendation is the Berger 168 VLD. But if you want heavier, go with the Berger 180 VLD or 180 Hybrid.

I'm just getting started with the STW, could you please give me some examples of what bullet weights can work with which twist rates.

Thanks,
Earl

This is just a roundabout chart. There's no guarantees. There are some flukes and some freaks of nature (like my 9.25 twist STW that LOVES 180gr Bergers), but there's others like my 9-twist 7mm RemMag barrel that hates anything bigger than a 168... Every barrel is different. You just have to experiment to see what what it likes, and what it doesn't.

1:8.5 - up to 200
1:9 - up to 180
1:10 - up to 160
1:11 - up to 140

I guarantee my STW with a 180 Berger will outshoot the 300 Win with a Berger 215 with less recoil. Yes even the 300 Ultra!lightbulb
I agree. my .300 Ackley (.300 Wby Improved 40*) is nice with the 210 VLD's, but I would honestly put it right along side my 7mm STW with 180 Hybrids anyday, because I feel they are so close in performance. The STW has slightly more speed, but the heavier .30 bullet will retain a little more energy. So I would honestly say, that both are about on an equal playing field.

My Remington 700 holds 2 in the mag and 1 in the chamber. I was wondering about running 168 gr accu bonds for Deer and Bear. Shots can be close and there could be some over 400 yards. Wondering if that is a good bullet I got IMR7828 and some H870 to try.

I tried 168 Accubond LR and had okay results with my Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mm STWs:

H1000 and Fed215.

But my twin Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mm STWs did better with the Matrix .284 168 grain VLDs.

.284 Caliber Bullets Custom Built for Accuracy | Matrix Ballistics

I used Remington brass, Fed 215 primers and H1000 powder for this bullet too.

Here is a three shot group @ 300 yards with the Matrix .284 168 grain VLDs out of one my twin Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mm STWs.

The velocity was 3,192 fps and the group was .729" which is a .243 MOA.

After 500 pages and thousands of posts - Im just going to ask instead of reading it all. I am looking for a 190 Matrix 7mmSTW load. Anybody had any experience with them? OAL issues?

I have used the 165's in 270 out to 300 on pigs and the bullets work very well. They are very accurate also.

I thought I would get ready- just incase Berger does finish production on the 7mm 195s!
