7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

I use Federal 215M's.

With mine, I just did a quick ladder test in .5 grain incriments and walked up to 71.0 and it was putting 5 Berger 180 Hybrids inside a dime @ 100 yards. I'm still not done working up, as 71.0 showed no pressure signs in my rifle.

Each rifle is individual, and yours might top out with pressure signs before then, so keep a close eye on the primers flattening out.

Also, the STW doesn't like the bullets pressed up into the lands...It can't handle that kind of a pressure spike and will blow the sides of the brass out.

I found out the hard way...

Yeah I had never done that to a case in 20yrs of reloading until this year working up a load for my dads 7RM actually kinda scared me when it thaught about how close it came to blowing up .
What kinda velocity you getting with 71gr of 7828 hodgdon shows 72 @ 2920 but that's with a handicapped 24" barrel. If I could get 3000 with a 180gr pill I'd be happy.

I'm running 67 grains of RL 22 under 180 smk's at 2850 fps and they're shooting 1/4 inch groups at a 100.
I'm using IMR 7828 with 175 sgk's . Rl 25 with 160 Shpbt game kings and VV N160 under 150 Nosler bt.

I get my rifle this coming week so I will be working up loads,I'm just looking at a good starting point as you all have shot this round I have some guns that like above max 300 rum for example has a 33in barrel likes 100 grains of magnum no pressure signs and pushing a 200 gr accubond at 3306 fps my 6.5x284 norma doesn't like max loads

With 71.0 and a 26" barrel, I'm getting about 2980 or so. If I can break the 3K mark and still hold excellent accuracy, I'll be happy. Which I'm sure won't be a problem.

I really can't wait to see what I can do with this rifle I'm so excited to actually find an older sendero with low mileage lol

I'm fixing to acquire another Sendero this week that has never had a round through it. It was a custom build off a CDL action with an original Sendero (blued/non-fluted) barrel that was factory chambered for 7mm STW that I bought off of a guy who never shot it. It wears a factory Rem HS Precision stock from a 700 5R MilSpec .300 WM rifle. Has a worked old-style trigger. It's nice. I traded that barrel to a buddy of mine, and I took him to my gunsmith to have the rifle built, so I know it was built right.

He has since fallen on hard times and must sell the rifle, but wants it to go back to me, since he knows how big of an STW nut I am, and since some of my parts went into that build. So, he offered it to me for what he has in it, and I can't argue with that price, since he has never even fired it.

I'll post pics of it when I get it from him.

Well, that plan fell-through......He somehow managed to get some money together, so now he doesn't have to sell it anymore. Crap, I was lookin forward to having 2 STW's.

It looks like you are pushing the shoulder back to far when you are sizing.Back your die off.

26"-28" should work fine. If it were mine, I'd probably go 28" on it, since I like shooting the heavy pills, so I could gain a little more velocity.

Hell, you could even go 30" if you wanted.

I just had a STW built Love the rifle it started life as 300 ultra mag but had it rebareled to a 26 in Stainless Fluted barrel. Its been pillars installed and glass bedded for stiffening the action. It has a 6.5-20-44 Weaver scope on it. So far its been fun testing loads out for it 3 quarter of a inch at a 100 with 140's and IMR 7828. tested it out to 300 yards so far plan to go out to 500 as soon as the hay is cut.gun)

Nice rifle...Welcome to the brotherhood.

Also, I saw your other post...Don't be afriad to try the big heavies in the 9¼" twist. My rifle is a factory Sendero SF in 7mmSTW, and it also has a 26" 9¼" twist barrel. I have no issues stabilizing the 180 grian Berger bullets. I also shoot 7828 SSC powder, use 215M primers, and Nosler brass.

I'm running my Berger 180 Hybrids just a frog's hair under 3,000 fps without any pressure signs. And that load is stacking 5 shots inside a dime @ 100 yards. I wil continue ladder testing my way to see how hot I can get it, and then back it off a little bit and chrono it, to see how fast it is.
