7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

I've only hunted whitetail, is this a mule deer?

Awesome pic.

Yup, that would be a PRIME mule deer. He would fit in my crosshairs real nicely, and I'd even give him a free pick up ride too ! That's what dreams are made of right there buddy.
P/S, it's snowing again!!!!!!:D
HAPPY NEW YEAR .

I was looking at the Nosler site, and it appears that they have some good news on the Accubond Long Range bullets. Per their documents, it looks like they all will work in a 1:9.5 twist barrel. Also, the bullets will work all they way down to 1300 fps. Hopefully they don't have problems up close.

If you don't handload, they will also be offering the 175 gr bullet in the STW in the Trophy Grade line. They have them rated at 2900 fps.

Now, we just have to wait till they come out.

We can easily beat 2900FPs with Retumbo out of a 26" bbl. Handloading the heavys are the only way to go....

Eagerly waiting, until then I'm shooting up the Bergers and Sierras I have.

It is certainly going to be an interesting summer once they come out.

Even better is that this will most certainly push the other mfg's to get up on their game as well.

I really love the performance of the sirocco II bullets but the are about to be left behind.

With the inconsistent performance of the Berger bullets with respect to expansion, they too are about to be left in the dust if these new LR Accubonds perform as expected.

If they do perform as expected this will be an absolute game changer in the high performance and especially long range hunting bullet/ammunition game.

I know that Nosler loads are a bit on the safe side, as I feel they want to step on the 7mm Rem UM's toes. It is good to see that they are thinking of this round, as some others have left it for their Short Mags.

I feel that the 175gr should be able to do 3000 fps easy with the right powders. The 168 gr also looks very promising, and that is the one that I am looking at first.

I would like to see others get some good heavier bullets that would stay together. Swift, Horady, Berger, and Sierra might have to review their bullets. With these options along with the Barnes LRX bullets, the heavy and long range options are getting better. A Hornady 162 Gr A-Max IB would be really nice.

7stw, how is the snow??? I see that Boston is under a Snow Warning.

Stay safe up there.

It has been snowing here in NE Ohio too, but we are use to it.

We got about 10 inches saturday nite. So I'll be out there later with the snow blower. ( I can hardly wait) I hate this time of year. Last year, I only used it once the whole season, and that didn't hurt my feelings at all.
As to your bullet choices, you mentioned some good ones. I have always been able to get a A Max to shoot, but was a little skeptical as to it's performance on game. But I have been assured by quite a few guys that are " in the know", as to how it works, and now, if I were to load that weight again, I wouldn't hesitate to use it. I now have a box of 168 LRX bullets that I have yet to try. I have no doubt they will shoot amazing. My sons 7 mag shoots the 162 a max incredible, but when we hunted last month, I opted to load it with 140 TSX. It shoots them well, but he likes the 162 better, so I think we will go back to that bullet in his rifle. These new Nosler bullets seem interesting, but I'm going to stick with what I have that is shooting as well as they are now. ( if it ain't broke, don't fix it ), if you know what I mean!
From me and mine, and to you and yours, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.
Hope everyones new year is bright!

The only question I would have with the Noslers would be close range shots under 150 yards.

I would think that being an Accubond, they'd be able to hold up. Then again I've heard some mixed reviews about the performance of the origional accubonds.

This too is one reason why I've stayed away from lighter bullets. When Nosler first came out with Ballistic tiped bullets, I was a kid shooting them out of my.243 that I hunted with. I later tried them in a 7 Rem mag Sendero (150g) and had one blow up on a fork horn muley buck at 100yds. Since then I've stayed away from them all together. I know a few guys that shoot the 180g Accubond out of their .300 RUMs and they all love them.

This seems like the best alternative to me. I just got sone developing a load for 175g Sierra Gamekings and would have stayed with the 180g Bergers if I didn't have to shoot them single shot. I hated having to give up that High BC, and it looks like I don't have to now..... This is prettty exciting to me.

Dano, about 3 years ago, I was hunting with my 300 RUM, and had never taken game with the Accu bonds up to that point. Well, I was shooting a 165 AB at about 3350 ish, and it was a tack driver at what ever distance I shot them at. I was hunting in Maryland, and opening morning, I shot a five pointer at about 180 yards. I dimed him right behind the shoulder, knocked him to the ground. He got up, and ran into the woods about 50 yards away. My cousin found him, as I went the wrong way when I got into the woods. Anyway, the " autopsy " revealed that he should have never been able to get up, because the heart and lungs were obliterated. The exit hole was about a 3/4 inch hole, and plenty of hemorrhage. The moral of the story is that was a relatively " short " shot. The potential for that field was a much longer shot, but that's where he showed up at. The bullet seemed to have stayed together, even at that velocity. That's a good bullet in my book.

That sound good! I hunt elk as well and these bullet would work for that as well. This is another reason I go with the heavier weight bullets. There are opportunities to hunt both species at the same time, so it would serve to have a bullet that would be able to handle both...
