7mm SHERMAN MAGNUM?

should be similar but potentially better with a longer neck and 40 degree shoulder
My first 30 sm had 1600 rounds and still going strong
Sounds like a wild cat a friend did off the 28 nolser case. Made the neck about .100-.150" longer and blew the shoulder out to 40°. It pushed 195 bergers as fast as my 28 and was just as accurate. When he switched to 180 eldm's the thing was shooting 3/4" at 400 yds.

Wlfdg...."Elkaholic do you know a reliable smith in eastern Idaho?..."

Where do you reside....
Pocatello has a couple...LanePrecision and a guy(60s) been smithing since he was a kid working with his gunsmith dad....

Thanks. I can see using a 375 Ruger parent case, I think.....

The rounds I worry about are like the 6.5 PRC. Great round, but the parent is dead. I sure hope after 5 years that 6.5 PRC doesn't have the same fate.

IMO, a great new round starts on a popular parent....I suppose this is old thinking as it seems like it is almost easier to develop a new round than grow an old one by changing the throat and bullet selection!

Can you post a picture of the 30SM compared to a Nosler, rum or similar?
sorry but I dont have either. I can describe the difference. Both the rum and nosler are . 550" diameter and have rebated rims while the SM is .530" with no rebate. The rum is longer, has more body taper and a 30 degree shoulder.
The Nosler is slightly shorter, has more body taper, and a 35 degree shoulder.
The SM has a 40 degree shoulder with very minimal taper and a longer neck than the others.
