It's funny how the original question was best for deer to 600-700 yards turned into elk at a 1000yd. My option would be to go with the 7 mm because it will kill just as well as the 300 at those distances on that animal with less recoil. If he said elk it would be different for sure. As for trying to argue with the velocities of the same bullet weights is not a good argument at all. I think the merits of bullets BC should be offset by its SD so you'd come up with a "caliber weighted efficiency" so you can sort of work out what brands do a better job G7 divided by SD

I think that's easily understandable and it would appear there is a slight loss in performance with 308 cal for some reason their G7 numbers need to be higher by 2-5% to match 6.5 and 7mm

Yes it is funny. I told the gentleman I would choose the 7mm over the 300. And i stated that I have shot both. I also said ( I ) was more accurate with the 7mm. I did not say the 7mm was more accurate. Then I stated my best group was with my 260 Rem then everyone got all bent out of shape. I am not a bench rest shooter by no means.
