7mm Rem Mag rechamber?

Can a 7mm Rem Mag be re-chambered to 7mmSTW or 7mmRUM without having to set the barrel back? Thanks in advance.

Why would you? what can you do with it that you can"t with what you already have? The Rem mag will take you into elk and black bear hunting and the others are really not any more sufficient for real dangerous game...... sincerely curious!

Looks like you could rechamber to the 7 RUM without a set back. Then is your action or magwell capable of this much longer cartridge?

Barrel, 24" long? Ya' really need 26" to get the most of a STW or UM. Factory barrel? It may be just me, but I won't spend the time or money to re-chamber one thats' mine.

I'm going with the other post, Why? A 7mm rem mag will run the heavy weights at an appropriate speed, all you stand to gain is 250fps (stw) or 400fps (rum) but in turn you'll be using 15-25grns more powder, your barrel won't survive even half as long and brass is more exspensive and harder to find, not to mention limited to remington and nosler. But if you think you must either can be done but as mentioned both are 3.6"+ length cartridges.

You probably could, but the chamber reamer may need an oversize pilot. If the 7 Rem Mag barrel's got over 800 rounds through it, the throat may well be enlarged such that an oversize pilot is needed to center the new chamber on the bore..

After this is done, the accuracy probably won't be any better than the original chamber produced. And it'll wear out faster 'cause more powder's burned for each shot.

I'd stick with the original chamber until the barrel's worn out and accuracy's no longer what you want. Then rebarrel to the larger round. I'd check magazine length to be sure the new ammo both fits and feeds reliably from it.
