7mm-08 with 6.5 StaBall and 139 Hornady CX bullets

In my 7/08 I tried StaBal 6.5 with the 145 Speer SBT. Worked up to 50 grs and Vel was 3012 ft/sec. Accuracy was 1.2 MOA. As was mentioned this powder spikes real fast. Be careful. I found that H100V to be a better powder accuracy wise. With it I worked up to 49 grs for a vel of 2912 ft/sec with .75 MOA accuracy. JME

Not there yet. This is a remage I did on my grandsons youth 700. I've done a couple others with Criterion barrels that were pretty easy 1/2 moa. This one has been around moa with 140 gr bullets. Tried R15, Varget, staball, H4350 R19. I have some 120 gr ballistic tips to try. My buddy is having good results with R15 but I dont have a bunch. Going to try some Imr 4350 and varget maybe some W760. Noslers list of powders is usually a good start for me.
I see well thanks for the info, with the new Reloader powder pricing I wont be using those anytime soon.

Howdy, with Sta-ball 6.5 you can start at 42gr. and work up to 49gr. You get to 46 start working in 1/2 's.
What other powder do you have.
49 is MAX. Be careful.

You should not compare mono with
Cup and Core.
This recipe I gave you is for 139Cx.
Thanks so much, I also have Varget, IMR4350 and A4350(which they don't show info on) maybe some H4350 but not much left I don't think.

A couple of things that I have witnessed producing pressure signs (and fps too high) were bullets seated out close to the lands, tight chamber at minimum headspace and WLR primers. Check the first two and try a different primer.

I have not tried other powders yet. Thanks for the info that makes me believe your right about copper bullets. I might just move on to another style just thought I would give it a try I like the concept and the gel tests look amazing. I guess I am just a sucker for Hornady and their advertising.
I would try H4350, Varget, or R 15 before you give up....the CX is terrific in 6.5....will be the same in yours....with the right powder.

I just loaded my new 18" barrel 7-08 with the 145gr Hammer HHT using Benchmark. I couldn't get enough rl15.5 in the case to get to pressure. Using Peterson brass, WLR primer I was able to get to 2700 fps comfortable. 2775 fps with bolt lift and extractor mark. Started at 36gr and a vel of 2497 fps and worked up from there. The Hammers will show less pressure than conventional lead core bullets and significantly less pressure than the CX bullet. I think with the CX bullet you will want to stay with the slower 4350 burn rate.

It may be prudent to lengthen the throat a little with long copper bullets as they usually like to jump. With the bullet being way back into the powder column in the case, this may not help the pressure curve with slower-burning powders in the 4350s range.
I did speak ask Hornady rep about this when I had him on the phone, they do recommend at least a .060 thou jump. I am currently at .081 off the land with the ogive using the standard 2.800 COAL. I was going to find the powder load first then adjust SD if necessary.
