I'm late coming on to this thread. But I'm glad I found it. I've been looking at building a lightweight 7 mm short mag for some time.
This is what I settled on. A 7 mm WSM built on a stainless steel Remington 700 mag short action fitted with a Wyatt 3.110 extended well magazine with a 26 in proof research Sendero light barrel. I had Pacific Tool and Gauge create me a custom 7mm WSM reamer that will support loading Hornady 175 gr eld-x bullets. COAL will be ~3.100. This will be bedded in a McMillan Remington short action Hunter stock built with the edge technology which will weigh 26 oz. The disadvantage with this build is the bottom of the action has to be opened up for the Wyatt extended well magazine and the ejection port has to be opened up to eject spent shells properly. I think a better solution be the Tikka action but I already have the Remington action. It was enlightening reading about the difference is between the 7 mm SAUM, the 7mm Sherman short mag and the 7mm WSM.
