6mm ARC - AR Build?

I'm a little late to the party, I built one this spring, used an Anderson lower and LaRue trigger, Strike industries lower parts. The upper was a Bear Creek that was a 556 upper, I ordered a barrel and bolt from Ballistic Advantage and changed them out.
I have been very happy with it so far using Hornady Precision Hunter ammo.
Picture of first group after zeroing so shots 4-6

Great project and quality time with the son! Only thing I would change is consider a m-lok handrail for the final config instead of key-mod.
Good luck and let us know as it progresses.

I believe he is referring to the QD mount for his suppressor, not a handguard mount system (Key-Mo vs Key-Mod).

Key-Mod isn't bad and has some points to recommend it but, MLOK definitely is a marketplace winner!

@Hoss50 I will give your son a NM upper with carry handle topped off with pinned 1/4 moa rear sight(one of my 1st projects on the mill), service rifle float tube inside the handguard. It does not have BCG, and no charging handle.....................................

..Under one condition, you have to teach him how to shoot iron sight. He does not have to compete in high power matches, just shoot from the bench till he learns how to shoot nice small groups in the middle at 100 or 200 with iron sight.

Every kid needs to learn how shoot with iron sights. Let me know. If you want it and agreed to my condition, I can ship this within a day or two.

Deal. I am a believer in learning to shoot irons.

You are very generous and I am sure he will be grateful and thrilled.

Looks great and shots just as good as it looks.

I wad talking about the muzzle device, but we had this conversation about keymod vs mlok the other day.

I asked a couple buddies if they had spare handguards that might work. One generously offered a keymod for free and another had an mlok for a reasonable price. I explained to him that though the one was free it may not be the best choice depending on his long term plans. All my stuff is mlok so his stuff would be the odd duck.

We are going to look at both and he can decide. He has been informed, so he can make a decision.

The build has begun. I ordered a blemished Aero Stripped Upper (can't see any blemish) and it arrives today. Yesterday my son and I went to a local store that stocks some AR parts and he bought his dustcover and forward assist. He assembled the upper tonight with some help.
Personally I've had bad luck with blem upper and I said never again. The lock down pin holes were just enough wrong to not work and I wasn't going to hog it out and make it sloppy.

My ARC build and intended on using 72 -87 grain and to get the most velocity I went with a 22 inch 7.5 twist. Pre-covid it was easy to find barrels. The best powder is LeverRevolution and 2nd is CFE 223

Sounds like you have a good plan in place with the boy. The 6 ARC is a great round in the AR platform. I built a Franken-gun 6 ARC last year. It has been a solid performer for being a fairly budget minded build. It shoots extremely well with all bullets I have used so far, mainly heavies in the 95 to 110 range. Details in picture. I can highly recommend the EABCO barrel as it has been a real shooter. I really like the MDT Chubby grips for good ergonomics. I did spend extra time doing accuracy related work to it as the build progressed. I squared and trued the receiver face, bedded the barrel using Loctite green compound, and made a lug lapping cartridge/tool to lap the bolt and receiver lugs. If I remember right, the BCG is from Cross Machine. I will likely not use the 6 ARC lapping tool that I made, so you are welcome to it if you want to use it for your build. The Amend2 mags have been flawless in feeding and function.

I found a pound of LeverRevolution earlier this week as well as 120rds of loaded ammo. Finding brass seems super difficult so we will start with loaded ammo. I also picked up some 103gr ELDX from my local reloading shop Bruno's. Thankfully I have a bunch of primers for SRP.

His blem upper is pretty tight and the Aero lower has the screw to take what little slack is in the halves and remove it.

As far as brass goes, I had a source for once fired Hornady to get me started. Some guys are using converted Lapua brass also. Starline says that they will have 6 ARC brass available this summer. I have had really good luck with all the different Starline brass that I have used so I will definitely be picking up a couple hundred for mine. Hornady brass has been downright disappointing lately.

Starline just released their 6 ARC brass… mine should be here Wednesday. I'll post up a photo of my 6 ARC build soon. I threw it together a couple of months ago, but never had a chance to shoot it before moving from Cleveland. We just rolled into Billings, MT last night and look forward to having more opportunities to shoot. From all I've heard, the 6 ARC is a great little round!
